Şarkıcının Pink adını almasının sebebi, sanıldığı gibi müzik dünyasına ilk adım attığında saçlarının pembe renkli olması değildi. Bu takma ismi, genç kadının çocukluk yıllarında da kullanılmaktaydı. Pink'in müziğe olan ilgisinin başlıca sebebi, babasının onu uyutmak için bestelediği ninillerdi. Yaşı ilerledikçe bu ninniler düetlere dönüştü ve Pink lise yıllarında babasıyla birlikte ilk bestelerini yapmaya başladı. Yerel bir rap grubuyla sahneye çıktığında ise henüz 13 yaşındaydı.

Oldukça sorunlu bir gençlik dönemi geçirdikten ve annesi ile babası ayrıldıktan sonra, annesiyle kavga etmekten bunalarak 14 yaşında evi terk etti ve müzik hayatına daha ciddi bir şekilde devam etmek zorunda olduğunu anladı.

Çocukluğunun büyük bir bölümü müzikle geçti. Babasının bu durumdaki etkisi sadece manevi değildi. Ona gitar derslerinde büyük katkı sağlayacak bilgiler vermiş; Janis Joplin, Shirley Murdocuk ve Donna Hathaway gibi isimleri örnek göstererek kızını küçük yaştan itibaren bir müzisyen olarak yetiştirmeye çalışmıştı. 14 yaşına geldiğinde ilk şarkısını yazdı ve Philidelphia'daki Kulüp Fever'da sahne almaya başladı. Yıldızı burada parlamaya başlayan genç kız, her zaman programına dahil olduğu bu kulüpte, sıradan bir cuma akşamında, MCA Kayıt Şirketi yetkililerinin dikkatini çekti. Yeteneğini ölçmek için Basic Instinct isimli bir grupla kısa süre birlikte çalıştırdıkları Alecia'yla çalışmaya devam etmediler. Bu geçici hayal kırıklığı, genç kızın moralini bozmadı. Çünkü o, herhangi bir topluluğa ait olduğunu düşünmüyordu.

Çok kısa bir süre sonra, referansları arasında Toni Braxton ve TLC gibi önemli isimleri de bulunduran ünlü LaFace Plakçılık'la birlikte Choice adlı bir R&B topluluğunda çalışmalara başladı. Topluluk, müzik zevkleri ve tarzlar arasındaki uyumsuzluk nedeniyle yoluna devam edemese de Pink'in LaFace ile olan bağları güçleniyordu. Choice ile Atlanta'da yaptığı çalışmaları sırasında yazdığı şarkılarla yeniden keşfedilmişti. Daryl Simmons ile "Just To Be Loving You" isimli parçaya sağladığı katkılar da yeteneğini kanıtlar niteliğe sahipti.

R&B'nin popa dönük olduğu tarza ilgi duyan Pink, kısa süre sonra L.A. Reid'e, yazdığı şarkıları gönderdi ve ilk kez 'solo çalışma' yapmak üzere harekete geçmiş oldu. Reid, Pink'in çalışmalarından çok etkilenmişti. Artık genç kız, başarılarla dolup taşacak olan kariyerine gerçek bir giriş yapmak üzereydi. Reid sayesinde; She'kspeare, Babyface ve 112 gibi önemli isimlerle birlikte çalışarak besteler üretme şansına sahip oldu.

Pink'in ilk albüm çalışması olan "Can't Take Me Home" böyle oluştu. Amerika'da En İyi 40 sıralamasına girmeyi başaran albüm, satış rakamlarıyla da çift platin ödülün sahibi oldu. Eleştirmen Christopher John Farley, Time dergisinde "20 yaşındaki bu kızın müziği adından kesinlikle daha güzel" yorumunu yaparken, Bob Brunner ise albüm tanıtımında şarkıların "özgün müzikal etkiler bıraktığı" şeklinde görüş belirtmişti. "Can't Take Me Home", çıkardığı hit şarkılarla da uzun süre gündeme damgasını vurdu. "There U Go", "Most Girls" ve "You Make Me Sick" gibi parçalar Pink'in başarısını pekiştirirken genç şarkıcı, aynı yıl, MTV Video Ödülleri'nde de "En İyi Yeni Şarkıcı" dalında aday gösterilmişti.

2001 yılında Pink; "Moulin Rouge" isimli sinema filmi için 70'lerin Patti LaBelle klasiği olan "Lady Marmalade"i, Christina Aguilera, Mya ve Lil' Kim gibi ünlü isimlerle birlikte seslendirdi. Tüm dünyayla birlikte ülkemizde de büyük ilgi gören yeniden düzenleme çalışması, etkili video klibiyle de dikkat çekti. Pink'e; "MTV Yılın En İyi Videosu" ve "Yılın En İyi Film Videosu" ödüllerinin yanısıra "En İyi Pop Birlikteliği" dalında Grammy dekazandıran "Lady Marmalade", şarkıcının müzik listelerinde bir numaraya yükselen ilk parçası olarak da önem taşıyor.

Pink, aynı yıl çıkardığı "M!ssundaztood" albümüyle kayıt şirketinin "altın kuralı"nı çiğnedi. Jim Farber'ın bu şekilde nitelendirdiği madde, "tarzınızı, stilinizi veya imajınızı değiştirerek hayranlarınızın aklını karıştırmayın" ifadesini içeriyordu. Ancak Pink, kumar oynar gibi yaptığı bu değişiklikten alnının akıyla çıkmayı başardı.

Yaşadığı ve yaşattığı değişikliklerin temelinde, 4 Non Blondes'un lideri Linda Perry ile birlikte yaptığı işbirliği çalışması bulunuyordu. Pink; albümün çoğunluğunda yardımcı yazar ve yardımcı yapımcı olarak görev alan Perry için, "Onu çok sevdim. Sanırım 13 yaşındayken aynen öyleydim!" diyor. Birlikte oldukları çalışma sürecini ise "ilham verici, özgür ve hayret verici derecede güzel" olarak nitelendiriyor...

"Bu albüm, benim kim olduğumu ve nasıl işler yaptığımı bildiklerini düşüneninsanlarda şok etkisi yaratacak." diyor Pink "M!sundaztood" için... Albümde genç şarkıcı, etkileyici sözleri ve yapımdaki başarısıyla dikkat çekiyor. "Don't Let Me Get Me" (Beni Benden Almama İzin Verme), kendinden nefret etme konusunu ele alan, ilginç sözlere sahip bir şarkı. En önemli çıkış parçalarından biri olan "Family Portrait"te ise anne ve babasının ayrılıklarından söz ediyor. "My Vietnam"'da, yaşadığı kişisel sorunlarla savaşı karşılaştırdığı akıl dolu diziler yer alıyor.

Pink 2006 yılında çıkardığı 'I Not Dead' adlı albümünün ilk klibini 'Stupid Girls' isimli parçasına çekti.Ardından 'Who Knew' ve 'U + Ur Hand' klipleriyle müzik kanallarındaki yerini aldı.

Oyunculuğuna gelince, daha önce Rollerball ve Charlie's Angel:Full Throttle'da rolleri vardı.Bu yıl onu,Catacombs'da izleyeceğiz.

Pink,Charlie'nin Melekleri: Tam Gaz (Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle) adlı sinema film için güzel bir parçada hazırladı. Filmde kısa bir rolü de bulunan genç şarkıcı, "Feel Good Time" isimli parçasıyla izleyenleri müthiş bir hareketliliğe hazırlıyor.

PİNK'TEN PETA'YA DESTEK

Amerikalı şarkıcı Pink Fransa’daki konserinden önce hayvan hakları örgütü PETA’ya destek vermek amacıyla sıra dışı bir protestoya katıldı.

Çılgınlıklarıyla ünlü Pink Paris, Bercy stadyumundaki konserinden önce gerçekleştirdiği sıra dışı eylemlerle her zaman dünyanın ilgisini çekmeyi başaran PETA’nın son eylemine destek vermek amacıyla objektiflerin önüne geçti.

Avustralya’daki canlı koyun ihracatını protesto etmek isteyen PETA üyeleri konser öncesinde Pink’i ziyaret etti. Kalçasını pembeye boyamış olan üyelerden biri ünlü şarkıcının önünde eğilerek bir imza istedi. Pink PETA’nın boykotuna imzasıyla destek verdi.

Pop müziğin asi sesi Pink, kısa bir süre önce ölen Elvis adlı sevgili köpeğini asla unutamayacak. Aslında unutmak istese de bunu başaramaz, çünkü Pink, Elvis’in sevimli yüzünü koluna dövme yaptırdı. Hayvanları çok seven bir sanatçı olarak tanınan Pink’in vücudundaki dövmelerin 22 numaralısı Elvis’in dövmesi oldu.

Bu köpeği sanatçıya Lisa Marie Presley hediye etmişti.
