Takım Leavesden’i 2 yıllığına kiralar. Bu süre içinde ilk iki kitap filme çekilecektir. Columbus filmin 120 milyon dolarlık bütçesiyle hiç de ucuz bir film olmadığının farkındadır. Sihir gösterileri bilgisayar grafikleriyle yaratılacaktır. Kitabı tam yansıtması açısından mimariye çok özen gösterirler. Harry’nin dünyası şekillenmeye başlarken oyuncu seçimi de başlamıştır. Yetişkinler çabuk bulunur.
Richard Harris okul müdürü rolünde
Richard Harris okul müdürü Dumbledore’u, Maggie Smith de yardımcısı McGonagall’ı oynayacaktır. İksir hocası Snape’i Alan Rickman, ‘dev adam’ Hagrid’i ise Robbie Coltrane’in oynaması kesinleşmiştir. Yetişkin rolleri oyuncularını bulurken filmin 3 anahtar oyuncusu hala belli değildir. Harry Potter rolü için tam 16 bin çocukla görüşülür ama Columbus Daniel Radcliffe’i istemektedir. Ama Daniel’in ailesi bunu kabul etmemiştir.
Columbus Daniel’i BBC’nin David Copperfield’inde görmüştür. Daniel’in anne ve babası da sanat dünyasındadır ve çocuklarına izin vermemektedir. Neredeyse bütün çocuklarla tekrar görüşülür ama Daniel Radcliffe, Columbus’un kafasından çıkmaz! Kafa dağıtmak için tiyatroya giden Heyman ve Kloves burada Radcliffe ve ailesiyle karşılaşır. Aslında fikirlerini değiştirmek üzere olan aile ikna olur ve Radcliffe deneme çekimine gider. Sonuç çok başarılıdır. Şimdi Daniel’in Ron ve Hermione’yi oynayacak çocuklarla geçinip geçinemeyeceği merak edilmektedir. Ron rolünü oynamak için Rupert Grint listededir.
Daniel Radcliffe,16 bin çocuğun arasından seçildi
Columbus ve prodüksiyon ekibinin, Harry’nin dünyasını hazırlamaları için sadece 120 günleri vardı. Repliklerini ezberleyen ve nerede ne yapacağını bilen çocuklara ihtiyaçları vardı. Ama elinde olan devamlı ekibe şaka yapan bir grup yaramaz çocuktu. Radcliffe makyaj ekibini kandırıp bir gün kesik el, bir gün de morarmış bir gözle sete gelince Columbus kalp krizi geçiriyordu. ‘Bir Home Alone daha çekiyormuşum hissine kapıldım.’ Diye itiraf ediyor Columbus. Rupert Grint (Ron) Alan Rickman’ın (Snape) komik resimlerini çizerken Rickman’a yakalanır.
Aslında Rickman tam arkasında duruyordur. Ama Rickman’ın da onun kadar şakacı olduğu ortaya çıkar. Rickman, Grint’in çizdiği resimleri hatıra olarak saklar. Radcliffe ise bir gün Robbie Coltrane’in (Hagrid) cep telefonunu Türkçe’ye çevirir. ‘Yapması çok kolay, zor olan geri çevirmesi!!’ Radcliffe’in annesi oğluna bir özür mektubu yazdırır ve Coltrane’e yollar. Coltrane hala intikamını nasıl alacağını düşünüyor. Nasıl olsa önlerinde çekilecek bir film daha var!
Herkesin hem fikir olduğu tek konu Radcliffe’in Harry Potter rolüne nasıl da oturduğudur. ‘O benim gördüğüm en aklı başında ve harika çocuk. Bir çocuğu filme aldığınızda ailesine de bakmanız gerekiyor’ Columbus bu sözleriyle Macauley Culkin ve ailesine gönderme yapıyor ve Daniel’in anne ve babasının da çok aklı başında insanlar olduklarını söylüyor.
İnsanların filmi görmesinin sebebinin Radcliffe olduğu kadar filmin kendisi olmasını istiyor Columbus. ‘Bu bir çocuk filmi değil. Nasıl olabilir ki? Kitabı okuyanların yüzde 40’ı erişkinler. Eğer ismim filmde olmasaydı insanlar benim yönettiğime inanmayacaklardı’.

NTV: Öncelikle bu filmdeki harika oyunun için tebrik ederim. Bize bu kadar kısa bir süre içinde ünlü olmanın nasıl bir deneyim olduğunu anlatabilir misin?
Daniel Radcliffe: Kendimi bir yıldız ya da ünlü biri olarak düşünmemeye çalışıyorum. O zaman kendimi kaybedebilirim. Bu riske girmek istemiyorum. Hayatım o kadar değişmedi. Sirius’u canlandıran Gary Oldman müziği çok sevdiğini bildiği Dan’e tanıştıklarında bir bas gitar hediye etti.
Alfonso Cuaron kendisine yönetmenlik teklif edildiğinde Harry Potter’ı okumamış, ilk iki filmi de görmemişti.

Rowling'e göre son kitabın son kelimesi "yara izi" olacakmış. Ayrıca en son bölümü yazdığını söylemiş. (Bu bölüme ilişkin resmi daha önce SB Haber'de yayımlamıştık, tekrar görmek için Haber Arşivi'ne göz atınız.)
"Bu size gösterip göstermemekte kararsız olduğum şey... Bu 7.kitabın son bölümü. Yani herşeyin sonlandığı bir sonuç bölümü. Ve basitçe herkes okuldan ayrıldıktan sonra neler olduğunu açıkladım -kimin sağ kaldığı- ve ölümler, daha çok ölümler geliyor. Her zaman kendime "Sona ulaşacaksın, bir gün 7. kitabı yazacaksın ve sonra buna ihtiyacın olacak!" derdim. Harry 7. kitapta, yedinci ve son yılında olacak. Yedinci kitap ile ilgili olaylar 31 Temmuz 1997 tarihi ile okulun bir sonraki kapanış tarihi 1998 Haziran'ı arasında olacak.
Harry 17. yaş gününden önce son bir kez daha Dursley'lere gidecek. Godric'in Kovuğu'na gitmeyi planlıyor, ayrıca Temmuz ayında Bill ve Fleur'un evlilik törenlerine de katılacak.

JR: Filmin çekildiği yere gittiğinde orada Harry’i canlandıran aktörü yani seni görmek için gelen birçok kişinin olduğunu görüyorsun. Tabi bunda Harry Potter serisinin muhteşem olmasının da payı büyük. Harry Potter taraftarları’nın yaklaşık olarak sayısından haberdar mısın?
Dan: Hiçbir fikrim yok.
JR: Ben birkaç bin kişi olduğuna inanıyorum.
Dan: Ben de öyle düşünüyorum, ancak benim böyle önemli bir role getirilmem şans eseriydi. Çünkü: filmin hazırlıkları başlamıştı ve bir ay sonra film çekilmeye başlanacaktı. 11 saatlik bir seçim sonucunda rolü benim oynamam kararlaştırıldı.
JR: Sana ne gibi soru sordular, ya da ne yaptırdılar örneğin asa hareketleriyle ilgili bir soru sordular mı?
Dan: İlk olarak karakterime uyup uyamayacağıma baktılar, aslında yeşil gözlerim olmadığı için şanssızdım. Daha sonra asa hareketlerime baktılar en sonunda süpürge üzerindeki duruşuma baktılar ve seçildim. Bunun yanında Chris Columbus’un ve Jk Rowling’in de katkıları var. Jk Rowling beni ‘Benim düşümdeki Harry’ olarak nitelendirirdi, bu Chris Columbus’un beni seçmesini sağladı.
