Sıradışı bir yeteneğe sahip olan aktör Edward Norton’un yıldızı, 1996 yılında rol aldığı “ Primal Fear ” adlı filmdeki rolüyle bir anda parlayıvermişti. Filmdeki nefes kesen performansı ile önce Altın Küre’ye ardından Oscar’a aday gösterilen Norton, “ American History X ”, “ The People vs. Larry Flynt ” ve “ Fight Club ” gibi başarılı yapımlarla yoluna devam etti.

18 Ağustos 1969’da Boston’da dünyaya gelen aktör, çocukluk yıllarını Columbia’da geçirdi. Küçük yaşlardan itibaren zekası ve ciddiyeti çevresindekilerin dikkatini çeken Norton’un oyunculuğa olan ilgisi daha beş yaşındayken, sonradan kendisi de aktris olan bakıcısı Betsy True ile birlikte gittiği “ Cinderella ” müzikaliyle başladı.

Bundan kısa süre sonra Orestein’s Columbia School for Theatrical Arts’da okumaya başlayan Norton, ilk sahne heyecanını sekiz yaşında “ Annie Get Your Gun ” ile tadacaktı.

Küçük yaşına rağmen rolünü büyük profesyonellikle canlandıran Norton, bundan sonraki rollerinde de ciddiyetini sürdürdü. Liseden sonra Yale Üniversitesi’nde astronomi, tarih ve Japonca eğitimi alan aktör, üniversitenin tiyatro etkinliklerinde de faal olarak görev almaktaydı.

Norton, tarih diplomasını aldıktan sonra birkaç ayını Japonya’da geçirdi. Ardından New York’a giderek, şehirlerdeki bozulmaya karşı mücadele veren “ Enterprise Foundation ” için çalıştı. Bu dönemde de oyunculuk konusunda karşısına çıkan her fırsatı değerlendirmeye devam eden aktör, sonuçta oyunculuğu meslek olarak benimsemeye karar verdi.

1994 yılında Edward Albee’nin “ Fragments ” isimli oyunu için oyuncu seçmelerine katıldı ve seçmelerde sergilediği dikkat çekici performansla rolü kolayca aldı. Ardından, sık sık Albee oyunlarının sahnelendiği “ New York Signature Theatre Company ”ye katıldı. Broadway’de gösterdiği başarılı performans yapımcıların gözünden kaçmayacaktı.

Aktör, 2100 kişinin katıldığı seçmeleri geçerek “ Primal Fear ” da rol aldı. Seçmelere gelen yönetmen, Norton’un kusursuz bir Kentucky aksanıyla konuştuğunu duyduğu anda – canlandırılacak karakterin geldiği yer Doğu Kentucky idi – rolü Norton’a vermeye karar vermişti.

Söylentiye göre Norton bu aksanı Coal Miner’ın “ Daughter ”ını izleyerek öğrenmişti. Seçmelerde bulunanlar arasında, Norton’un sahnede gösterdiği performansı görüp de etkilenmeyen kişi yoktu.

Aynı yıl Woody Allen’ın yönettiği “ Everyone Says I Love You ” isimli Hollywood müzikalinde Drew Barrymore’un nazik nişanlısını canlandıran aktör, rolündeki şarkıları kendi söyleyerek bu alandaki başarısıyla da izleyicileri etkilemeyi başardı.

Bir yıl içinde birbirinden bunca farklı iki filmle hızını alamayan aktör, Milos Forman’ın beğenilen filmi “ The People vs. Larry Flynt ” isimli filmde de azimli ceza avukatı rolüyle dikkatleri üzerinde topladı.

1998 yılında Norton iki ayrı filmdeki performansıyla yine sinemaseverlerin beğenisini toplamayı başardı. Bunlardan ilki, “ Rounders ” filmindeki, Matt Damon’un “ Solucan ” lakaplı arkadaşı rolüydü. Film hakkındaki yorumların yetersizliği aktörün başarısını da biraz gölgeledi. Aynı yıl rol aldığı “ American History X ” filmi de box-office’te fazla başarı elde edemedi ama Norton filmdeki rolüyle izleyicileri hayran bırakarak Oscar adaylığını elde etti.

1999 yılında Brad Pitt ve Helena Bonham Carter ile birlikte “ Fight Club ”da rol aldı. Ardından 2000 yapımı “ Keeping the Faith ” ile yönetmenliğe adım atan Norton, filmde aynı zamanda en yakın arkadaşıyla aynı kadına aşık olan papaz rolündeydi. 2001 yapımı “ The Score ”da yine bambaşka bir kişilikle – saldırgan ve yetenekli genç bir hırsız olarak – hayranlarının karşısına çıktı. Aktörün filmdeki rol arkadaşları arasında, Hollywood’un dev isimleri Robert de Niro ve Marlon Brando da vardı.

Norton skandala bulaşıyor!

Edward Norton, New York polis teşkilatında yaşanan skandalların anlatılacağı 'Pride and Glory' filmine hazırlanıyor.

Gavin O'Connor'ın yöneteceği filmde Norton başrolü Colin Farrell'la paylaşacak. New York polis teşkilatında yaşanan bir skandalın aile içinde yarattığı çatışmaları konu edinen filmin 2007'nin sonbaharında gösterime girmesi planlanıyor. Fakat hayranları Norton'u o kadar beklemek zorunda değil. Onlar Amerika'da bu ay gösterime girecek 'Painted Veil' adlı filmde ilgisizliği ve işine düşkünlüğü nedeniyle onu aldatan karısından (Naomi Watts) intikam almaya kalkışan doktor koca olarak Norton'u izleyebilirler. 1920'lerde geçen hikâye aslında W. Somerset Maugham'ın aynı adlı romanının sinema uyarlaması.

Sıradışı bir yeteneğe sahip olan aktör Edward Norton’un yıldızı, 1996 yılında rol aldığı “ Primal Fear ” adlı filmdeki rolüyle bir anda parlayıvermişti. Filmdeki nefes kesen performansı ile önce Altın Küre’ye ardından Oscar’a aday gösterilen Norton, “ American History X ”, “ The People vs. Larry Flynt ” ve “ Fight Club ” gibi başarılı yapımlarla yoluna devam etti.

18 Ağustos 1969’da Boston’da dünyaya gelen aktör, çocukluk yıllarını Columbia’da geçirdi. Küçük yaşlardan itibaren zekası ve ciddiyeti çevresindekilerin dikkatini çeken Norton’un oyunculuğa olan ilgisi daha beş yaşındayken, sonradan kendisi de aktris olan bakıcısı Betsy True ile birlikte gittiği “ Cinderella ” müzikaliyle başladı.

Bundan kısa süre sonra Orestein’s Columbia School for Theatrical Arts’da okumaya başlayan Norton, ilk sahne heyecanını sekiz yaşında “ Annie Get Your Gun ” ile tadacaktı.

Küçük yaşına rağmen rolünü büyük profesyonellikle canlandıran Norton, bundan sonraki rollerinde de ciddiyetini sürdürdü. Liseden sonra Yale Üniversitesi’nde astronomi, tarih ve Japonca eğitimi alan aktör, üniversitenin tiyatro etkinliklerinde de faal olarak görev almaktaydı.

Norton, tarih diplomasını aldıktan sonra birkaç ayını Japonya’da geçirdi. Ardından New York’a giderek, şehirlerdeki bozulmaya karşı mücadele veren “ Enterprise Foundation ” için çalıştı. Bu dönemde de oyunculuk konusunda karşısına çıkan her fırsatı değerlendirmeye devam eden aktör, sonuçta oyunculuğu meslek olarak benimsemeye karar verdi.

1994 yılında Edward Albee’nin “ Fragments ” isimli oyunu için oyuncu seçmelerine katıldı ve seçmelerde sergilediği dikkat çekici performansla rolü kolayca aldı. Ardından, sık sık Albee oyunlarının sahnelendiği “ New York Signature Theatre Company ”ye katıldı. Broadway’de gösterdiği başarılı performans yapımcıların gözünden kaçmayacaktı.

Aktör, 2100 kişinin katıldığı seçmeleri geçerek “ Primal Fear ” da rol aldı. Seçmelere gelen yönetmen, Norton’un kusursuz bir Kentucky aksanıyla konuştuğunu duyduğu anda – canlandırılacak karakterin geldiği yer Doğu Kentucky idi – rolü Norton’a vermeye karar vermişti.

Söylentiye göre Norton bu aksanı Coal Miner’ın “ Daughter ”ını izleyerek öğrenmişti. Seçmelerde bulunanlar arasında, Norton’un sahnede gösterdiği performansı görüp de etkilenmeyen kişi yoktu.

Aynı yıl Woody Allen’ın yönettiği “ Everyone Says I Love You ” isimli Hollywood müzikalinde Drew Barrymore’un nazik nişanlısını canlandıran aktör, rolündeki şarkıları kendi söyleyerek bu alandaki başarısıyla da izleyicileri etkilemeyi başardı.

Bir yıl içinde birbirinden bunca farklı iki filmle hızını alamayan aktör, Milos Forman’ın beğenilen filmi “ The People vs. Larry Flynt ” isimli filmde de azimli ceza avukatı rolüyle dikkatleri üzerinde topladı.

1998 yılında Norton iki ayrı filmdeki performansıyla yine sinemaseverlerin beğenisini toplamayı başardı. Bunlardan ilki, “ Rounders ” filmindeki, Matt Damon’un “ Solucan ” lakaplı arkadaşı rolüydü. Film hakkındaki yorumların yetersizliği aktörün başarısını da biraz gölgeledi. Aynı yıl rol aldığı “ American History X ” filmi de box-office’te fazla başarı elde edemedi ama Norton filmdeki rolüyle izleyicileri hayran bırakarak Oscar adaylığını elde etti.

1999 yılında Brad Pitt ve Helena Bonham Carter ile birlikte “ Fight Club ”da rol aldı. Ardından 2000 yapımı “ Keeping the Faith ” ile yönetmenliğe adım atan Norton, filmde aynı zamanda en yakın arkadaşıyla aynı kadına aşık olan papaz rolündeydi. 2001 yapımı “ The Score ”da yine bambaşka bir kişilikle – saldırgan ve yetenekli genç bir hırsız olarak – hayranlarının karşısına çıktı. Aktörün filmdeki rol arkadaşları arasında, Hollywood’un dev isimleri Robert de Niro ve Marlon Brando da vardı.
