jerry bruckheimer'ın röportajından pırates of the caribbean ve başrol oyuncusu johnny depp ile ilgili kısmı:aslında tam olarak nasıl bir kahraman yaratmak istediğimi bilmiyordum.projenin başrolünde işin aslı çok başarılı bulduğum orlando vardı,ve güzel aşkı elizabeth içinde birsürü isim sonrası keıra ile anlaştık..bana 2.erkek oyuncu için çatlak uçuk kaçık bir tip çizilmişti.bu çok sınırda bişeydir ayarı iyi tutturmak gerekirdi zor bir karakterdi..ne ciddi kalmak nede işi sulandırmamak gerekirdi sonuçta bu bir disney filmi olucaktı.. aslında johnny başlangıçta bu rol için aklımda olan isimlerden değildi,çok başarılıyıdı ama o, bu kadar büyük bir proje için risk demekti çünkü çok asiydi her rölü oynamaz işine geldiği gibi yapardı.johnny ile ilk karşılaştığımızda bir cafede ona projeyi ve oynayacağı rolü anlattım onun her rolü kabul etmediğini biliyordum bu bir korsan filmi olucak dediğimde "varım" dedi.ona şartları çekimin malum adada,denizde ve aylar sürebileceğini ve disneyin şartlarını anlattım benden 2 gün istedi..ve iki gün sonra kabul ettiğini söyledi.çekimlere başladık bana deli diyorlardı neden riske girdiğimi hollywood'un usta ve klaşe oyuncularından birini oynatabileceğimi söylüyorlardı.ama johnny de bişey vardı..ister gülün ister dalga geçin ama o adada ona baktım.o kıyafet,makyaj,kostüm ve tavırla karşımda duran adam "jack sparrow böle olmalı,yoksa bende yokum dedi" işte o an tamam dedim ve johnny'e başrolü verdim disneyi ikna etmek zor oldu başrolde bir gay korsan mı oynatacaksın bile dediler.hatta iş bozulma aşamasına bile geldi.ikna etmek zor oldu ve nitekim film çekildi.johnny jack sparrowa dönüştükçe ona hayran kaldım bu inanılmaz bişeydi..orlando johnny'in doğru seçim olduğunu söylediğinde setteki dayanışmayıda gördüm..bilirsiniz böyle dedikodular çok çıktı..orlando ve johnny in başrol için kavgalı oldukları falan.okuyup hep birlikte gülmüştük.ses getirecek yapımlarda böyle şeyler hep olur değilmi..nitekim filmi bitirdiğimizde emindim.hemde çok emin.hayatta yaptığına şükrettiğin 3 şey nedir deseler kesinlikle biri depp'e bu rolü vermektir derim.filmin hasılatını 3 e katladı..bizi eleştiri oklarına tutanlar telefonlar ve mailler ile özür ve tebrik ediyorlardı.kariyerimin önemli projelerinden biri pırates of the carribbean bana çok şey şey kattı..
