1979 yılında Los Angeles’ta Cedars-Sinai Hastanesi’nde dünyaya gelen Kate Garry Hudson, komedyen-şarkıcı Bill Hudson ile aktris Goldy Hawn’un kızı. Daha doğumunun ilk aylarında Hawn ile Hudson boşanınca, Kate ve ağabeyi Oliver annelerinin yanında kaldılar ve babalarının onlardan habersiz Malibu’ya yerleşmesinden önce kendisini pek nadir olarak gördüler.

1983 yılında anne Goldie Hawn, aktör Kurt Russell’la tanıştı. Bundan sonraki 18 yıl boyunca aileyle birlikte yaşayan Russell, Kate için asıl baba oldu. Annesinin mesleğinden etkilenen Kate, küçük yaşlardan itibaren oyuncu olmayı hayal etti. Ailesi onun başka bir meslek seçmesini istiyordu. Ama oyunculukta kararlı olan Kate, ilk rolünü 7 yaşında annesinin rol aldığı “ Wildcats ” filminde aldı. ( 1986 )

Crossroads Güzel Sanatlar Okulu’nu bitirdikten sonra NYU’nun Tisch Oyunculuk Okulu’na kabul edilen Kate, yeteneğini okulda öğrenci temsillerinde sergilemek yerine kestirme yolu seçerek Hollywood’un yolunu tuttu. Ailesinin ününden yararlanmak yerine, şansını oyuncu seçmelerinde aradı. Bir Kurt Russell filmi olan “ Escape From L.A ”de rol almayı başaramadıysa da, “ Party of Five ” isimli televizyon serisinin elemelerini geçerek serinin ilk bölümünde rol aldı.

1997 yılında bir başka televizyon dizisi olan “ EZ Streets ”de yer aldıktan sonra, beyaz perdeye transfer olan aktris, 1998 yılında “ Desert Blue ” için kamera karşısına geçti. Hudson’un sinemada kendini fark ettirmesi, “ 200 Cigarettes ” isimli filmle oldu. Filmde Cindy karakterini canlandıran aktristin rol arkadaşları, Courtney Love, Ben Affleck ve Janeane Garofalo idi.

Hudson, daha ziyade, “ Ricochet River ” ve “ About Adam ” gibi düşük bütçeli bağımsız filmlerde rol aldıysa da, 2000 yılına gelindiğinde adı sıkça anılan oyuncular arasında yer almaya başladı. “ Gossip ”te ( Seks Dedikoduları ) Naomi isimli zengin kızı canlandıran aktris, “ Dr. T. and the Women ”ın ( Dr.T. ve Kadınları ) kadrosunda, Helen Hunt, Liv Tyler ve Tara Reid’ın yanında yerini aldı.

Ama onun gerek eleştirmenlerin, gerekse izleyicilerin kalbini kazanması, “ Almost Famous ” ( Şöhrete Bir Adım ) filmindeki Penny Lane rolüyle oldu. Yönetmenliğini Cameron Crowe’un üstlendiği filmde bir rock grubuna yaz turneleri boyunca eşlik eden genç bir eleştirmeni canlandıran Hudson, bu rolü çok severek canlandırdı.

Penny Lane rolü başlangıçta aktris Sarah Polley’e önerilmişti. Kate ise filmde başrol oyuncusunun kız kardeşini canlandıracaktı. Ama Hudson’ın kararlılığından ve azminden etkilenen Crowe, onu Penny Lane rolüne getirmeye karar verdi ve böylelikle de aktristin yıldızı parlamış oldu.

Hudson, “ Almost Famous ” ile şöhrete adımını attı ve filmdeki rolüyle “ Broadcast Film Kritikleri Derneği ” ödülüne, “ Golden Satellite En İyi Yardımcı Kadın Oyuncu ” ödülüne ve de “ Altın Küre En İyi Yardımcı Kadın Oyuncu ” ödülüne layık görüldü. Penny Lane rolü, aktriste 2001 Oscarları’nda “ En İyi Yardımcı Kadın Oyuncu ” adaylığını da getirdi.

“ People ” dergisince belirlenen “ En Güzel 50 İnsan ” listesinde de yerini alan Hollywood’un bu yeni altın kızı, son olarak “ Four Feathers ”ta Ethne Eustace rolüyle kamera karşısına geçti.

Film yıldızı olmayı önemsemiyor...


“Almost Famous”taki rolüyle müthiş bir çıkış yakalayan Kate Hudson'ın bu çıkışı, pek çok kişi tarafından annesi Goldie Hawn’a bağlanmıştı. Ancak o, bu eleştirilere kulak tıkayarak günden güne kendini geliştirmeyi sürdürüyor. Film yıldızı olmaktan çok zeki bir oyuncu olmayı önemsediğini söyleyen Hudson, Gena Rowlands ve John Hurt gibi iki usta isimle rol aldığı "İskelet Anahtarı"nda doyurucu bir performans ortaya koyuyor.


Henüz yirmi bir yaşındayken bir yardımcı kadın oyuncu dalında Altın Küre sahibi ve Oscar adayı olmuş bu yetenekli kız kimdir acaba? Gerçekten yetenekli mi yoksa sanatçı bir aileden geliyor olmanın avantajlarını mı kullanıyor? Yeteneğin yanında üstüne üstlük 'People' dergisinin hazırladığı “Dünyanın en güzel elli insanı” listesine girecek kadar da güzel mi?

Annesi, komedi filmlerinin ünlü oyuncusu Goldie Hawn, öz babası bir müzisyen, erkek kardeşi yazar ve aynı zamanda yönetmen, üvey babası ise Kurt Russell. Küçük yaşlardan beri ilgilendiği oyunculuk mesleğini, lise yıllarında amatör tiyatro oyunlarında tatbik ederek işe başladı Hudson. Üniversite zamanı geldiğindeyse tercihini iş hayatına erkenden atılmak yönünde kullandı. Bağımsız filmlerde aldığı ufak tefek rollerin ardından, yükselişinin ikinci basamağı 'Vanity Fair' dergisinin kapağında yer almaktı ve 1998 yapımı “Desert Blue” filminde oynaması yükselişinin bir sonraki basamağıydı. Ancak Kate Hudson’ın kariyerindeki en önemli çıkışı, annesi Goldie Hawn’un da kapmasında büyük etkisi olduğu söylenen, Cameron Crowe filmi “Almost Famous”taki, Band Aide hayranı genç kız (Penny Lane) rolüydü. Hudson’ın filmlerdeki başarılı performanslarının yanında bu eleştirilere verdiği cevap ise şöyle: “Büyük bir film yıldızı olmak benim için önemli değil. Sanırım bugün birçok insan için önemli olan bu. Biliyorsunuz annem harika bir film yıldızı ama o, sadece bu değil. Annem, o şöhret değil. İnsanın her istediğini yapabilmesi, her istediği karakteri oynayabilmesi harika olurdu. Farklı farklı tavırları olan bir sürü genç oyuncu var ve bunu anlamıyorlar. Film yıldızı olmak istiyorlar ve beklemeye tahammül edemiyorlar. Sanırım sorun insanların işi çok ileri götürüyor olmaları. Artık pek fazla zeki oyuncu yok. Gerçekten yok. ”

Onu, arzu ettiği şekilde zeki bir oyuncu olarak nitelendirmek için henüz erken de olsa yaptığı tercihlerle, en azından ‘seçici’ bir aktris olma yolunda olduğunun sinyallerini veriyor Hudson. Crowe’un filminden sonra, yaşayan en önemli Amerikalı yönetmenlerden biri olan Robert Altman’ın “Dr. T ve Kadınları”nda ("Dr. T & the Women") rol alan Hudson, bir sonraki sezon, “Dört Cesur Arkadaş” ("The Four Feathers") ve "Bir Erkek 10 Günde Nasıl Kaybedilir" ("How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days") ile konuğumuz olmuştu. Güzel yıldızın John Corbett ve Joan Cusack?la başrolü paylaştığı ?Raising Helen?, ülkemizde vizyona girmese de, Gena Rowlands ve John Hurt gibi iki usta oyuncuyla birlikte rol aldığı "İskelet Anahtarı"nda izleme şansını bulduk. Özellikle başarılı sürpriz sonu ve yarattığı atmosferle dikkat çeken filmde, Hudson da başrolde fazlasıyla doyurucu bir performans ortaya koyuyor.

Kate Hudson: Bir müzikalde oynamayı çok isterdim. Annemi (Goldie Hawn) "Everyone Says I Love You / Herkes Seni Seviyorum Der"de şarkı söyleyip dans ederken görmek benim için çok heyecan vericiydi. Uzun zamandır şarkı söylüyordu ve dans ediyordu, sonunda bunu filmlerde de yaptığını görünce keşke daha önce yapsaydı diye düşündüm. Hatırlıyorum bir ara 'Chicago' müzikalinin film versiyonunu yapmayı çok istemişti (Şimdi müzikalin film versiyonunda Catherine Zeta-Jones ve Renee Zellweger oynuyor). Umarım bir gün kendime ait bir müzikalde rol alırım. Tabii eğer annem de benimle oynarsa harika olur.

Donald Martin’in senaryosunu yazdığı A Dream of Red Mansions'da bir Çinli devrimci ile Amerikalı gazetecinin yaşadığı aşk sinemaya taşınacak.

Beyazperdenin iki güçlü oyuncusu bu unutulmaz aşkı Kasım ayında Tayvan’da yaşamaya başlayacak.

Geçtiğimiz aylarda ünlü aktör Owen Wilson'ı terkederek onun intihara teşebbüs etmesine neden olan Kate Hudson, Wilson'ı hâlâ sevdiğini açıkladı. The Sun gazetesinde çıkan habere göre; Hudson eski aşkıyla ilgili şunları söyledi: "Owen çok sevgi dolu bir insan, onu hâlâ çok seviyorum. Umarım her şey onun için çok güzel olur." Ünlü aktris Kate Hudson, şöhretli insanların çocuklarını paparazzilerden koruyacak bir yasa çıkarılmasını talep etti. 4 yaşında Ryder adında bir oğlu olan Hudson, "Goldie Hawn'un kızı olduğum için sürekli benim de fotoğraflarım çekilirdi, çocukların bunu yaşaması hiç hoş değil" diye konuştu.

Ünlü aktris Kate Hudson, People dergisinin her yıl seçtiği 'En Güzel 100 İnsan' listesine girdi. 'En Güzel Kapak Kızı' seçilen Hudson, derginin yeni sayısına da kapak oldu. Dergiye bir de röportaj veren Hudson, "Evin en yaramaz çocuğu hep bendim. Üç tane erkek kardeşim olmasına rağmen yaramazlıkta hepsini geçerdim" diye konuştu. Güzelliğinin genetik olduğunu belirten ünlü aktris, "Kendime hiç bakmam" dedi.
