For actor Gerard Butler, life would have been much different had he chose to remain a bored and unhappy barrister instead of becoming a celebrity. Of course, there was no guarantee of success once he embarked upon an acting career, but fortunately for him that’s how things turned out. Though not a household name, Butler has appeared in high-profile movies and television miniseries, and was once considered for the enviable role of James Bond. But despite such continued exposure, Butler has failed to take the next step and become a star.

Born in Glasgow the youngest of three children, Butler moved to Montreal, Canada when just six months old. His father pursued several business ventures that ultimately failed, which tore apart his marriage to Butler’s mother. His mom, Margaret, moved the children back to Scotland where Butler and his siblings grew up in their mother’s home town of Paisley. Butler spent his youth at the nearby theater and soon developed an itch to act. Though it took some convincing, Butler managed to have his mother take him on auditions. Eventually, he joined the Scottish Youth Theatre, where one of his first stage roles was a street urchin in Oliver!. Though the seeds were sown early, Butler would veer down different avenues before becoming a professional actor.

To please those around him who felt that acting was not a viable career option, Butler enrolled in the law program at Glasgow University. Despite exceptional grades, a term as president of the school’s law society, and an honor’s degree, Butler was unhappy with his choice. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles for a short time, and appeared as an extra in “The Bodyguard” (1992), starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. Butler then traveled to Canada to spend the last remaining moments with his dad, who was dying of cancer. After his father’s death, Butler returned to Scotland and began a traineeship at top law firm in Edinburgh. The taste of Hollywood, however, still lingered.

Butler continued the daily grind at the law firm for almost two years. He realized he made the wrong career move after seeing a stage performance of “Trainspotting” at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh. His depression at work soon showed, and Butler was fired just days before he was to finish his training. The firing couldn’t have made Butler any happier, as he pursued acting while working a series of odd jobs, including an obligatory stint as a waiter. During this time, Butler amassed a resume of stage roles, including one in the lesser-known Shakespeare tragedy, “Coriolanus”, and as the lead in the same production of “Trainspotting” that rekindled his desire to act.
Once established as a stage actor, Butler transitioned to film, starting with a supporting role in the historical drama, “Mrs. Brown” (1997), starring Dame Judi Dench and Billy Connolly. A smaller role in a bigger movie followed with an appearance in the 18th installment in the James Bond series, “Tomorrow Never Dies” (1997). Butler appeared in a few British films that barely saw the light of day in the United States, including “Fast Food” (1998), “One More Kiss” (1999), and “The Cherry Orchard” (1999), an adaptation of the Anton Chekhov play. Butler played the title character in Wes Craven’s “Dracula 2000” (2000), but despite the Wes Craven tag, the movie flopped with audiences and critics alike. Butler followed up with “Harrison’s Flowers” (2002), a sobering drama set in war-torn Yugoslavia, and though it received decent reviews, the film came and went without fanfare.

Butler continued to seek the limelight with bigger projects, including the action-fantasy flick, “Reign of Fire” (2002). The result, however, was much the same as “Dracula 2000”. Butler shifted gears and starred as the title character in the epic television miniseries, “Attila” (USA, 2001). Despite bungled historical accuracy, the thrilling battles scenes and cool horsemanship was enough to attract viewers. Ultimately, the legacy of the miniseries didn’t come close to matching that of its subject, as it fell into the dustbin of history.

The pre-release hype of both “Dracula 2000” and “Attila” spurned media rumors that Butler was being cultivated to become the next James Bond. However, disappointing box office numbers and a recommitment by Pierce Brosnan knocked Butler out of contention. He did, however, star alongside Angelina Jolie in “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” (2003), and even had a ‘steamy’ make-out scene with the actress. For kicks, Butler attended a preview screening of the movie and came away pleased with audience reactions.

The actor appeared next in “Timeline” (2003), an adaptation of the Michael Crichton time travel novel. The movie kept audiences away from theaters, and critics failed to find any artistic merit. Meanwhile, Butler was later tapped to play the title role in Joel Schumacher’s version of “The Phantom of the Opera” (2004). For the big screen, Butler proved a merely adequate Phantom, a tad too handsome to inspire fear, and with an only passable singing voice that did not make anyone forget the powerful vocals of the famed stage Phantom Michael Crawford.

He then starred alongside Emily Mortimer as a stranger who becomes the World’s Greatest Dad to a nine year-old deaf boy in “Dear Frankie” (2005), a manipulative drama courtesy of Miramax that tugged the heartstrings to the breaking point. In “Beowulf & Grendel” (2006), he played the legendary Norse warrior who battles the monster Grendel, a role that prepared him for his next film, 300 (2007), Frank Miller’s lavish comic book take on the famous Battle of Thermopylae between 300 Spartan warriors and the massive army of Persia’s King Xerxes. Butler portrayed Spartan King Leonidas, whose valor and sacrifice inspired all of Greece to unite against the Persian army after he and his outnumbered forces fought to the death.

Eflatun, eklediğin yazılar için sağol. Yazıda da belirtildiği gibi, iyi ki avukatlık yerine oyunculuğu seçmiş Gerard. Gerçi bugüne kadar "başyapıt" olarak nitelendirilebilecek bir yapımda oyunculuk yapmış değil ama gittikçe daha başarılı işlerde rol alacağını düşünüyorum.

Bu arada ay sonunda 300'un DVD'si Amerikan pazarlarinda yerini alacak. Simdiden Blockbuster'larda ve satis noktalarinda kuyruk var. Ismimi yazdirdim, bana kadar kalirsa, 31 Temmuz gecesi 300 izliyor olacagim:img-icecr . Filmin hasilati dunya capinda $400 milyon'u gecmis bile...

Filmde butun dogus sahnelerini ve stuntlari kendisi yapmis. Bu filmdeki vucuduna sahip olabilmek icin iki ayri trainer ile calismis. Tum kadro ilk bir kac gun egzersizleri yaparken kusmuslar maalesef. O derece agir ve ciddi bir calisma sonrasi da ortaya cikan manzara muazzam tabii!! Boot camp uzmani ordu egitimcisi bir trainer esliginde sadece protein agirlikli beslenerek aylar gecirmis. Sut urunleri, karbonhidrat ve yag yok. Yani sadece sebze ve protein.

300'deki cekimler sirasinda uzerinde sadece kucuk bir bez parcasi (loin-cloth) var malum. Baslarda bu sekilde dolasirken zorlandigini soyluyor. Ozellikle bazi hareketlerde bez yapmasi gerekeni yapamiyormus maalesef:img-blush . Ama sonra alismis.

Ben onun en cok simsicak icten tavirlarina ve Iskoc aksani ile konustugu Ingilizce'sine hayranim. Iskoc aksanini oteden beri sevmisimdir. Hatta bir zamanlar Uzakdogu'da Iskoc bir DJ'in programini dinlerdim. Muzik secimlerini hic sevmezdim tam bir iskence olurdu ama her muzikten once ve sonra konusurdu ve ben onun aksanini duymak icin o berbat radyo programina hergun iki saat katlanirdim:img-blush

Beowulf & Grendel isimli epik filmini dun gece seyrettim nihayet. Uzun saclari ve kilolu haliyle oldukca farkli gorunse bile yakin cekimde gozler kameraya girince, hani su icinden isiklar geciyormus gibi parlamasi, hemen kendini belli ediyordu. Ben bunun hikayesini okul yillarinda bir donem didik didik inceleyerek okumustum. Bildigim bir donem ve konu idi. Dogrusu okurken gozumde canlanan dunyaya yakin bir dekor ve mekan gorunce etkilendim.

Isvec'te yasadigim yillardan hatirladigim, insani nefessiz birakan bicak gibi soguk ruzgari film boyunca Gerard'in saclarini ucurup dururken o gunleri hatirlayip resmen usudum:img-yes: Zaten film tarihi gercekligi yansittigi icin "basarili bir epik" olarak degerlendiriliyor. Biraz anlamasi zordu cunku Celtic doneminin Ingilizcesi ile konustular Buna birde Gerard'in derin sesini ve Iskoc aksanini da ekleyince bayagi zorlandim. Bir sure sonra alisip takip etmeye baslaniyor ama ilk 5-10 dakika ne dediklerinin yarisini anlamak mumkun degil.

Hikayesi ve icindeki mesaj oldukca anlamli ve guzel bir film. Filmin sonunda Gerard'a ne dusundugunu sormuslar, "Film bittigi icin seviniyorum cunku biktim ama bir yandan da cok uzuluyorum cunku cok severek oynadim. Beowulf da iste bu celiski icinde olan bir kahraman. Oldurmek zorunda ama oldurmekten memnun degil" diyordu, o guzel aksani ile.

Neyi nerde okudugumu tam hatirlamiyorum ama okuduklarimdan aklimda kalanlari sizinle paylasayim.

The Phantom of the Opera'yi izlemeyeniniz varsa, gorsel bir solen ve muthis muzikler icin mutlaka izleyin derim. Ama bu bir muzikal yani konusmalarin neredeyse tamami sarkilar halinde ve filmin butun konusu sarkilarin sozlerinde gizli. Sarkilarin sozlerini takip etmezseniz film cok anlamli olmayabilir.

Kritikler sahne muzikalindeki orjinal phantom'la kiyaslayinca Gerard'i cok begenmemisler ama ben opera egitimi olmayan, dus alirken sarki soylemenin otesine gitmemis birinin, dunyanin en onemli muzikallerinden birinin sinemaya uyarlanmasi sirasinda basrol oynayacak ve bu kadar basarili olacak kadar sarki soylemesini olaganustu buldum. Ustelik ara sira kacan o Iskoc aksani ile phantom daha orjinal ve cekici olmus:img-blush .

Sarki soyleme durumu o kadar abartili hale gelmis ki, o sirada cekimleri suren bir baska filmin cekim aralarinda oturdugu yerde ayaklarina bakarak durmadan muzikleri mirildanir olmus ve ekipteki herkesin nese kaynagi haline gelmis.

Filmde en sevdiginiz sarki hangisi diye sorduklarinda ""Angel of Music (Muzik Melegi)" adli sarki phantom'un sarkisi oldugu icin cok onemli ama benim gonlumde "The Point of No Return (Geri donusun olmadigi nokta)" yatiyor, onu seslendiriken cok etkilendim" diye cevap verdi. Gercekten de filmi seyrederken o parcada goz yaslarimi tutamamistim. Yasayarak ve hissederek soylemisti ve hislerini izleyici olarak bana aktaracak kadar yogun yasamis.

Filmin tamamini ilk kez izlediginde sasirdigini soyluyor, "Cekimler sirasinda muhtesem bir dekor ve sahne olacagini anlamistim ama hersey bir araya gelince cok etkileyici olmus." diyor.

öncelikle şunu anladımki gösterdikleri bazı film sahnelerine gerçekten oynamak için yürek istiyor yani ödül alan herkese tebrikler hak etmişler gerçekten
Gerard a gelince sunucu the rock tı (bilirsiniz şu akrep kral) daha tören başlar başlamaz bir pano var zaten izleyen arkadaşlarda görmüştür sunucu sorular soruyor panoda cevebı yazıyor yakışıklı konusu geçti kendi adı yazılcak zannederken birden gerard butler yazınca bi alkış koptu anlatamam sonra bizimkini gösterdiler hemen ben bayıldım tabi o an...gerard ödül alırken çok karizmaydı ödülü veren kişi bir yönetmendi biraz gerard tan bahsettikten sonra ödülü verdi..bizimki teşekkür etti herkese ama diğer ödül alanlardan daha farklı verdiler gerard a film müziği eşliğinde ve 300 den bazı askerler yanındaydı.izlenmeye değerdi vallaha..sonra ödülü aldıktan sonra bizimki yerine geçti ..sunucu onu dövebilirim aslında (hani yakışıklı diye pano onu gösterdiya o bakımdan)fakat boşveriyorum zaten o beni çenesiyle devirir diye bir espiride bulundu ama salon koptu aynen bende öyle...tek kelimeyle mükemmeldi...

şulecim anladığım kadarıyla sen gerardın attiladaki halini çok beğeniyorsun ben bir kaç resim ekledim fakat eğer daha fazlasını görmek istersen sağolsun eflatun çok harika fotolar eklemiş bir kaç sayfa geriye gitmen gerekiyor...:good: :good:

[B]Açıkcası Gerard Butler'ı fazla tanımıyom ama dün "300 Spartans" filmini seyrettim ve aşırı derecede hoşuma gitti.:img-in_lo Gerard Butler rolünü cuk diye oturmuş. Filmden sonra hemen internette film ve oyuncular hakkında bilgi edindim. Dizifilmde de bu başlığı görünce gerçekten çok mutlu oldum ve dün gece bu başlığın hepsini inceleyip bitirdim.
