Johnny Depp (Asıl adı John Christopher Depp II, d. 1963)
üç kez Oscar'a aday gösterilmiş Amerika'lı aktör.

2003 yılında Karayip Korsanları: Siyah İnci'nin Laneti filmindeki performansı,

2004 yılında ise Düşler Ülkesi filminde gösterdiği performans

ve 2007 yılında Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street filmindeki performası ile En İyi Erkek Oyuncu Akademi Ödülü'ne aday gösterilmiştir.

Depp 9 Haziran 1963'te Owensboro, Kentucky'de doğdu. Florida'da büyüdü.
12 yaşında annesinin aldığı gitarla, çevredeki gruplarda gitar çalmaya başladı.
15 yaşında bir rock müzisyeni olmak umuduyla okulu bıraktı. Aynı sene anne ve babası da boşanmıştı.
Kendine zarar vermeye başlamıştı.
The Kids adlı rock grubunda müzik yapmaya başladı ve grubun davulcusunun kız kardeşi Lori Anne Allison ile 20 Aralık 1983'te evlendi. "Six Gun Method" adını almış grup Depp'in evliliği sonları çıkan sorunlar nedeniyle stüdyoya giremeden dağıldı.

Los Angeles, Kaliforniya'da eşinin yardımıyla Nicolas Cage ile tanıştı ve ilk filmi A Nightmare On Elm Street'de 1984 yılında oynama şansı buldu. 1985 yılında ise Lori Anne Allison'dan boşandı.

1986 yılında Oliver Stone'un Platoon filminde ufak bir rol aldı. Depp 1987 yılında 21 Jump Street adlı diziye başladı. Dizinin başarı kazanmasıyla birdenbire Depp gençlerin idolü haline gelmişti.
Ancak bu Depp'in istediği şey değildi.
Kendini pazarlanmış hissediyordu ve diziyle anlaşması bittiğinde sadece kendi istediği rollerde oynamaya karar verdi.

Johnny Depp'in kariyeri için önemli bir nokta ise Tim Burton ile tanışmasıdır. Depp Burton'un yönetmenliğini yaptığı pekçok filmde rol almıştır.
Bunlardan biri 1990 tarihli Edward Scissorhands filmidir. Depp bu filmde başrol oynadı.
Bu ikili daha sonra 1994 yapımı Ed Wood, 1999 yapımı Sleepy Hollow, 2005 yılı yapımı Charlie'nin Çikolata Fabrikası ve Corpse Bride ardından ise 2007 yapımı Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street filminde beraber çalışmışlardır.

Depp 1993 tarihli dram What's Eating Gilbert Grape filminde Leonardo DiCaprio ve Juliette Lewis gibi genç starlarla baş rolü paylaşmıştır.
Bosna-Hersek doğumlu yönetmen Emir Kusturica'nın Arizona Dream filminde de oynamıştır.
Bir gerilim filmi olan Roman Polanski'nin yönettiği The Ninth Gate, bir Stephen King uyarlaması Secret Window, Karındeşen Jack ile ilgili olan From Hell gibi karanlık filmlerin yanında, Chocolat gibi romantik filmlerde ve Once Upon A Time In Mexico gibi aksiyon filmlerinde de oynamıştır.
2004 tarihli Peter Pan'in yazarı J. M. Barrie'yi canlandırdığı Finding Neverland ile Oscar'a aday olmuştur.

Oyuncunun bugüne kadar ki doruk noktası Karayip Korsanları: Siyah İnci'nin Laneti filminde olmuş ve bu film sayesinde 2003 yılında Akademi Ödülleri'nde En iyi Erkek Oyuncu ödülüne aday olmuştur.

Filmdeki Jack Sparrow rolü önce yapımcılar tarafından beğenilmemiştir ancak film yayınlandıktan sonra film bu kararkterin üstünde yükselmiştir.
Depp daha önceden yaratılmış karakterin en son halini Rolling Stones gitaristi Keith Richards'tan esinlenerek yaratmıştır.
Filmin ikinci ve üçüncü bölümleri de bir çok rekor kırarak, sinemaseverler tarafından beğenilmişti.

İlk evliliğinden sonra Kate Moss ve Winona Ryder gibi ünlü isimlerle beraber olmuştur. Sevgilisi Winona'nın adını koluna dövme olarak yaptıran sanatçı dövmeyi ayrıldıklarında şarapçı anlamına gelen "Wino" haline getirdi.

Şu an Fransız şarkıcı-oyuncu Vanessa Paradis ile birlikte yaşamaktadır, Lîlly-Rose Melody (Doğum,27 Mayıs 1999) ve Jack (Doğum,9 Nisan 2002) adlarında iki çocuğa sahiptirler.

Bryan Burroughs'un Public Enemies romanından uyarlanan filmin çekimlerine Wisconsin/Columbus da geçen pazartesi günü başlandı.

1930'lu yıllarda Amerika'nın Ortabatı Bölgesi'ni kasıp kavurmuş, 1903-1934 yılları arasında yaşamış banka soyguncusu.

Cana yakınlığı, şiddetten kaçınması ve o sıralarda halkın pek çoğunun ekonomik zorlukların sorumlusu olarak gördüğü bankaları hedef alması nedeniyle bir kanun kaçağı olmasına rağmen bazı çevrelerde bir halk kahramanı olarak anılmıştır.

Birkaç kez yakalanmış ancak tutuklu bulunduğu yerlerden her seferinde kolaylıkla kaçarak yerel polis örgütlerini zor durumda bırakmıştır.

Bir seferinde tutuklu bulunduğu İndiana'nın Crown Point (Taç Noktası) Kasabası'ndaki tutukevinden siyaha boyalı bir tahta parçasını silah gibi göstererek kaçması üzerine çevre şehirlerde bu kasabanın adının Clown Point'e (Palyaço Noktası) çevrilmesine yol açmıştır.

Hakkındaki bir diğer rivayete göre ise, tutuklu bulunduğu hapishanenin müdürünü rehin aldıktan sonra hapishanenin arabası ve şoförü ile kaçarken çevredeki bir bankaya girip soymuş ve bankadan aldığı paranın bir kısmını hapishane müdürü ve şoförüne pay olarak vermiştir.

John Dillinger, Chicago Kenti'nde, ilişki içinde bulunduğu Polly Hamilton'ın yanında saklanmaktayken, Hamilton'ın arkadaşı Ana Cumpanas'ın Amerika'da oturma izni karşılığında FBI'a ihbarda bulunması sonucu bir sinema çıkışı pusuya düşürülüp öldürüldü.
FBI'ın atış poligonlarındaki hedeflerin üzerinde hala daha John Dillinger'ın resminin bulunduğu söylenir.

I just wanted to post that Johnny Depp has to be the nicest big-time actor in Hollywood. I was waiting for him to leave the Public Enemies set last night and we had to wait down the street. Security all of the sudden came up to all of us and said Johnny Depp wants to sign autographs for everyone. So they lined all two-hundred of us up and he went down the line and signed one for each, talking to each of us individually. I couldn't believe how nice of him that was - because security was so tight he didn't even have to see us if he didn't want to! What an amazing actor and human being!

sweeney_jackie , SinCity suç dünyasında geçen çok güzel bir filmdir. Meşhur bir çizgi romandan uyarlanmıştır.
Sin City'nin ilki çok tutuldu ve beğenildi. 2incisinin çekileceği dedikoduları 2 senedir konuşuluyor.
Bir ara Angelina Jolie de katılacaktı kadroya... ama olmadı?

Şimdi de Johnny Depp, diyorsun. Ben duymadım bu söylentiyi, aslı var mıdır yok mudur bilmiyom.

I just wanted to post that Johnny Depp has to be the nicest big-time actor in Hollywood. I was waiting for him to leave the Public Enemies set last night and we had to wait down the street. Security all of the sudden came up to all of us and said Johnny Depp wants to sign autographs for everyone. So they lined all two-hundred of us up and he went down the line and signed one for each, talking to each of us individually. I couldn't believe how nice of him that was - because security was so tight he didn't even have to see us if he didn't want to! What an amazing actor and human being!

Film scholar discusses actor Johnny Depp

Murray Pomerance, professor of media and culture at Ryerson University in Toronto and author and editor of 16 books on film, will deliver a free, public presentation on actor Johnny Depp titled “Deep Depp: Travails of Celebrity in a Global Era” 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in 112 Dale Hall, 433 W. Lindsey St.

“This is a great opportunity for students and faculty to meet one of the most prolific recent scholars in cinema studies,” said Timothy Shary, director of the Film and Video Studies Program, a unit of the University of Oklahoma College of Arts and Sciences. “Considering what a wide range of interests and publications Murray has covered, and knowing what a lively speaker he is, I ** sure that many people will find his discussion of Johnny Depp especially interesting.”

Pomerance has written such books as “The Horse Who Drank the Sky: Film Experience Beyond Narrative and Theory” and “An Eye for Hitchcock,” and he has edited or co-edited collections such as “From Hobbits to Hollywood: Essays on Peter Jackson’s ‘Lord of the Rings,’” “Where the Boys Are: Cinemas of Masculinity and Youth” and “Bang Bang, Shoot Shoot! Essays on Guns and Popular Culture.”

Recently he launched two major book series in cinema studies: “Screen Decades,” which examines individual decades in the history of American film, and “Star Decades,” which chronicles major and minor stars of each decade.

His presentation on Johnny Depp comes from his book about the mercurial star, “Johnny Depp Starts Here.” Pomerance will discuss Depp’s career choices, celebrity status and cinematic reception by the international audience.

The event is co-sponsored by OU’s Film and Video Studies Program and the College of Arts and Sciences.

For a job in Vancouver the heartthrob's rider included a treadmill, dumbbells and stability ball in his room.

The fridge had to be stocked with blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, kiwi and soy milk.

Well-done chicken breast was requested as well as tuna in spring water with light mayo and six hard-boiled eggs.

Johnny's diet, hotel staff were told, must be low-sodium, not greasy and any dressings must be low-calorie. He was given a bottle of Chateau Haut Brion wine, let's hope he got stuck in.

Galaya oldukça şık bir takımla katılan Depp, ayakkabılarıyla da dikkat çekti. Johnny Depp'tir, ne yaparsa kabulümüzdür. Eminiz ki o ayakkabılar son moda; kirli olmaları hiç önemli değil.

Geceye aynı zamanda efsanevi grup The Rolling Stones'un efsanevi gitaristi Keith Richards da katıldı. Richards, her zamankinden daha da enerjik gözüküyordu.

A revealing insight into why Johnny Depp looks 30 when he's actually 44.

For a job in Vancouver the heartthrob's rider included a treadmill, dumbbells and stability ball in his room.

The fridge had to be stocked with blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, kiwi and soy milk.

Well-done chicken breast was requested as well as tuna in spring water with light mayo and six hard-boiled eggs.

Johnny's diet, hotel staff were told, must be low-sodium, not greasy and any dressings must be low-calorie. He was given a bottle of Chateau Haut Brion wine, let's hope he got stuck in.

Not much fun, Johnny, but it seems to be working...

Depp isn't film's main attraction

Who would have thought Hollywood could have this kind of effect on us?

Much of southern Wisconsin was in a flurry this week as Universal Studios arrived first in Columbus, and then in Darlington, to film scenes for "Public Enemies," a crime drama starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in the story of John Dillinger.

Spectators flocked to filming sites to catch a glimpse of the action (or actually, the inaction. Making movies is a pretty tedious process, with lots of downtime as equipment is readied.) Spending the afternoon to talk with star-struck onlookers in Darlington Wednesday, even Times photographer Brenda Steurer and I had a hard time walking away before we (finally) got a glimpse of Depp.

And while it's very cool that the Lafayette County Courthouse courtroom is used as a set and that local people got spots as extras, my interest in the move goes beyond that.

My interest even goes beyond getting a change to see the uber-sexy Mr. Depp. Really.

My interest is in Mr. Dillinger, the classic American anti-hero who captured my imagination long ago.

Dillinger was a ruthless, vicious Depression-era gangster who robbed banks and eluded government agents, leaving a trail of innocent victims in his wake.

But the American public was willing to overlook these transgressions. After all, average American citizens had lost their fortunes just a few years before when the stock market crashed and banks closed. The banks, and the government, had failed them, too. There were reports that Dillinger, in the process of robbing banks, also destroyed mortgage records, further enhancing his image as a modern day Robin Hood.

A quick recap of Dillinger's blitzkreig, taken from "Gangster Holidays," a book about gangsters in Wisconsin's Northwoods written by Tom Hollatz, shows a fascinating character.

Dillinger's career was surprisingly short-lived for someone so infamous 70 years later. At age 21, he and a partner badly beat a grocery store owner in a robbery attempt, a crime for which Dillinger served nine years in the Indiana State Prison.

In prison, he meet up with experienced bank robbers who helped him plan heists upon their release. Within four months of his release in 1933, Dillinger had robbed eight banks and helped his pals escape. When Dillinger was captured a month later, in October 1933, and held in the county jail in Lima, Ohio, his gang helped him out by killing the sheriff so Dillinger could escape.

The next 10 months were a whirlwind of violence. Dillinger and his gang swept the Midwest, robbing banks and police arsenals, killing 10 people and wounding seven others. They fled to Florida and then Tucson, where Dillinger was recognized and extradited to Indiana for murder.

But Dillinger wasn't in jail for long: Within months, he fooled guards with a gun he had whittled from wood. He stole the sheriff's car, and for the first time, committed a federal offense when he drove it across the Indiana-Illinois state line. Now J. Edgar Hoover and his new FBI were in the act.

The next day, March 4, 1934, Dillinger picked up his girlfriend and headed for St. Paul, where he met up with his gang. They drove to South Dakota and robbed a bank, then to Iowa, where they hit another before holing up in St. Paul.

But the Feds were hot in Dillinger's tail. There was one thrilling escape from G-men after another. In April, they fled to Little Bohemia, a resort on Little Star Lake in the far reaches of northern Wisconsin.

It is here that my affinity for the Northwoods, and especially the area of Vilas County around Manitowish Waters, draws me to Dillinger.

If you go to Little Bohemia, now a supper club, you can see bullet holes in the walls from the shootout that ensued when the Feds showed up to take Dillinger, dead or alive. You can sit in the bar and imagine Dillinger playing cards with Baby Face Nelson or Pretty Boy Floyd.

You can just see Dillinger, or a least the Hollywood version of Dillinger, barreling down the twisted roads that cut through the towering pine forests in his getaway car, Tommy guns blazing, his rouged-cheek girl at this side.

Dillinger escaped that night, but in the confusion three innocent bystanders were shot. Hoover stepped up the pressure to get Dillinger. Three months later, on a hot July night, Dillinger was gunned down as he left the air-conditioned comfort of the Biograph Theater in Chicago. A friend, the lady in the red dress (it was actually orange), had betrayed him and tipped off the FBI.

What a story - the stuff legends are made of. And something tells me Depp will be perfect as Dillinger - he's an expert at fringe characters.

I rarely go to movies anymore. But I will definitely go to the theater to see "Public Enemies."

And not just for Johnny Depp. Really.

***Hollywood star Johnny Depp to help Hampshire coma girl

HE'S a Hollywood heart-throb who has played everything from a pirate to a drug baron to a policeman on the trail of Jack the Ripper, and most recently the murderous barber Sweeney Todd.

But a Hampshire family are hoping Johnny Depp's next role could make him a real-life hero.

Sophie Wilkinson has been in a coma for the past five months, since the car she was a passenger in - driven by an 18-year-old who had passed his test just 24 hours earlier - smashed into an 18-tonne lorry.

The 17-year-old who dreamed of teaching AIDS orphans in Africa before going to university has undergone life-saving operations since the horrific crash in Swanmore last October.

While magistrates have banned David Brookman, who was driving the Peugeot 106, Sophie's parents and three siblings have staged a vigil at her bedside.

Although she has since opened her eyes and even smiled, she remains in a coma.

But parents Andrew and Alison Wilkinson hope her Hollywood idol could be the key to changing that.

They have contacted Johnny Depp, whose portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy was a favourite of Sophie's, to ask for help.

And like any good hero, he has agreed.

The 44-year-old star, a father of two, has offered to record a message to the Peter Symonds College student in the hope that his voice will wake her up.

So touched was he by Sophie's story the actor has also said he wants to visit.

Johnny Depp makes people cry in Wisconsin

He shook this town up when he came, the youthful-looking fortysomething who, on a platform of change, drew throngs of admirers and roused weary young Wisconsinites out of their winter doldrums.

Okay, I made up the part about a platform of change. But I'm talking about, of course, Johnny Depp, whose arrival in the Badger State -- for the filming of Public Enemies, an old-time gangster movie -- set off a frenzy rivaling the one that greeted Barack Obama's socko appearance at the Kohl Center.

My mind was blown when I read Rod Melotte's account of the shoot earlier this week in Columbus. Melotte reports that hundreds -- hundreds -- of people had turned up at dawn on a cold Monday morning to take in the action. If I'm even awake at dawn on a cold Monday morning, I'm probably thinking about getting back to sleep.

Many of the onlookers had surely come for the sheer spectacle that is the Hollywood machine in action. It probably felt like the circus had come to town. But others, clearly, were there for Depp and Depp alone. Here's how Melotte describes one fan's reaction to a sighting of the star:

The first time he passes, a young woman says over and over, “OH MY GOD IT WAS JOHNNY DEPP!” She borrows my cell phone to call her mom and is sobbing while telling the story of just how close she was to the actor.

Sobbing!

Which is weird, and possibly an overreaction.

Understand, I think Depp is a fine actor. Thanks in no small part to his long-running collaboration with the idiosyncratic director Tim Burton, Depp is a rarity among American film performers, an actor whose thoughtful integrity remains largely uncompromised.

Fifteen and more years ago I was moved by him in quirky, small films like Ed Wood and What's Eating Gilbert Grape? And he is still smartly challenging viewers with films like the recent all-singing, all-throat-slashing Sweeney Todd, as well as 2004's The Libertine, about a seventeenth-century English poet who paid tribute in verse to dildos and crab lice.

Of course, Depp would not be a household name if not for the Pirates of the Caribbean films, and that series is probably how the weeping young woman in Columbus knows Depp best. (Unless she was a big fan of The Libertine.)

So to summarize: His serious work notwithstanding, Depp is mostly loved by silly young people for a series of silly pirate films, and only a silly young person would burst into tears at the sight of a celebrity. Right?

Except I'm not so sure. Something similar happened to me a few years ago, and I wasn't all that young. Neither was the celebrity in question. In fact, he was 72.

It was an overcast summer night in 2003 when I went to Wausau to hear country music legend George Jones sing. He performed at the Wisconsin Valley Fair, where I sat in bleachers hundreds of feet from the outdoor stage. There was a cheesy warm-up act. Jones looked old. He sang songs that were hits in the 1950s. At 32, I seemed for the most part to be the youngest person there by 20 years.

And from the moment he started singing, I couldn't stop crying. Seriously. I was badly dehydrated by the show's end -- which, for what it's worth, was punctuated by the most violent summer thunderstorm I've ever been caught in. Since my teens I have thought George Jones was pretty wonderful, and I wept at the sight and sound of him.

So I identify with the young weeping woman in Columbus. Our popular entertainers can exert an awesome emotional pull on us, whether they're moaning incomparably sad country songs, as George Jones does on his records, or looking incomparably beautiful on a 30-foot-high movie screen, as Johnny Depp does, in whatever role.

And when we are in the actual presence of these entertainers, that emotion can't help but come out -- sometimes, in tears. They're not tears of sorrow, obviously, but they're not quite tears of joy, either. They're a reaction that simply says: that is the person who moves me. That person standing freaking right there!

I understand it. So, perhaps, do those men who cried on sports radio call-in shows when Brett Favre retired. We get very invested in our celebrities.

Actually, if I'd been standing with the young weeping woman in Columbus, maybe I would have been weeping right along with her.

Johnny Depp Wants You!
AURORA, Ill (Aurora Beacon News) ― A casting company is looking for extras to work in the Johnny Depp movie that will be filming in west suburban Aurora on April 5 and 6.

Last week, Paramount Theater signed a contract to film part of "Public Enemies," starring Depp and Christian Bale, in downtown Aurora. The movie is directed by Michael Mann.

The film, about the life of gangster John Dillinger and the birth of the FBI, is set in the 1930s. In order to re-create the look and feel of the film, male extras need to be less than 6-foot-2 with a jacket size no larger than 44, while female extras must be shorter than 5-foot-8 with a dress size no larger than 10.

A release cautions people not to call if they do not match the size requirements, because the casting agency cannot make exceptions.

Public Enemies' filming a public hit

CROWN POINT -- A throng of about 1,000 people came to town to see Johnny Depp on Monday.

The quirky star, best known for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy, did not disappoint.

Screams erupted from the crowd as Depp emerged from a white Universal Studios' trailer in the Super Bowl parking lot and waved to the waiting crowds as a black Ford SUV picked him up and whisked him around the corner.

The vehicle parked on a blocked-off Main Street in front of the Old Lake County Sheriff's House and Jail, and Depp emerged.
Clad in a short tan jacket, he faced more fans on the west side of Main Street, who had been separated from the set of "Public Enemies" by fencing.

Depp smiled and waved, put his hands together in a prayer-like gesture, offering a slight forward bow, then touched his right hand to his heart in appreciation for their adoration before heading up the Sheriff's House steps and disappearing through the doorway to reprise the role of gangster John Dillinger in the Michael Mann movie, set to be released next year.

Fans waited, and waited more, since Monday's scenes were shot indoors only. Some carried babies and pushed strollers that held children too young to know Johnny Depp. Others were old enough to remember when Dillinger broke out of the Lake County Jail on March 3, 1934.

Across the street, in front of the building, actors playing the men-only reporters who would interview Dillinger milled around in overcoats and fedoras, mingling with other actors in period navy Lake County Sheriff's police uniforms.

A set director walked up and down a deserted Main Street calling, "Quiet, please!" Then "Rolling!" Then a few minutes later, "Cut!" with a thank-you and a wave to the crowd for their cooperation.

About 21/2 hours later, Depp exited the building, headed down the steps, this time sporting a long black overcoat, and once again smiling, waving, and again, patting his heart with his hand with a slight bow before an assistant opened a door to the SUV. Depp slipped inside, rolled down the window and waved to fans as he rounded the corner onto Walnut Street heading out for lunch.

Security was tight at the set, and guards let no one pass by the police tape that separated fans from the famous, which included Depp and "Public Enemies" director Michael Mann.

"Is he here?" asked some latecomers, who stood up to six deep at some points.

Jackie Stahl, a second-grade teacher at Eisenhower Elementary School, who took pictures of Depp, wasted no time making a phone call.

"Guess who we saw?" Stahl said excitedly. "Johnny Depp. I got him getting in the car!"

"That was so neat," said Stahl, after hanging up. "This is so exciting."

"He waved! Oh my God!" said Caressa Rospierski, 16, a Portage High School student on spring break.

Her classmate Stacia Upton, also 16, held up a poster saying, "We love you, Johnny."

"It's got my phone number on it, see?" Upton said.

"He was waving and smiling all big and pretty," said classmate Kali Norfrey, also 16. "He's gorgeous! This is the highlight of my life!

"When I look back in life that's gonna be the last thing I see," she said.

"I don't care about Johnny Depp, but I like Michael Mann's movies," said Ray Diggs of the Brunswick area west of Cedar Lake. "You don't see this every day."

"Public Enemies" publicist David Fulton declined to say if Depp or any of the other major actors would be present for today's filming.

Fulton said Mann doesn't often go to the trouble of refurbishing a building as he did the old Lake County Jail, but filming Dillinger's escape scene in the building where it historically took place was important to Mann.

"Mr. Mann puts a lot of effort in to the production," Fulton said.

Fulton also declined to say if filming would take place anywhere else in the city, although it is expected to continue through Thursday, sources said.

Mayor David Uran's chief of staff Keith Stevens said he couldn't "speak to another location."

Stevens, who came and went periodically during the filming, but never saw Depp, said crowds were "more than respectful when the crew asked them to be quiet.

"I heard all the screaming and yelling, and I imagined they weren't screaming for me," Stevens said.

"To me the interesting part was the transformation of one city block to 70 years ago. It's a part of history relived."

It's official: Johnny's on the square

CROWN POINT | While most of the Region was still sound asleep in warm beds, some 75 area residents gathered under a bright moon in 20 degree temperatures early Monday in hopes of doing a little star gazing.

Movie star gazing, that is.

Actor Johnny Depp is playing John Dillinger in the biopic "Public Enemies" filming this week in the outlaw's old haunts in downtown Crown Point.

The fans got their wish just before 11 a.m., when a black Ford Expedition pulled up in front of the old sheriff's house on Main Street and out popped Depp.

The crowd of more than 100 -- some of whom had been waiting for nearly 12 hours -- erupted into loud cheers as Depp dashed into the old sheriff's house.

Nicole Vega, 15, of Crown Point and her sister Megan, 22, came downtown around 4 a.m.

"It's the most fascinating thing in Crown Point since Dillinger broke out of jail and (Rudolph) Valentino got married at the courthouse," Nicole Vega said. "I just hope I get to see Johnny Depp. Even if I don't, this is still the most exciting thing to happen on my spring break."

While word in and around the set was that filming would be taking place solely indoors, those who braved the chilly early morning temps weren't about to budge. The onlookers saw a lot of trucks and trailers, crews bustling about in and out of the old sheriff's house and the Hall of Justice, some Crown Point police officers and guards from a private security firm.

A group of 10 people gathered behind the Hall of Justice building at 5 a.m. after seeing trailers they thought could possibly be housing Depp or other stars from the movie move into the parking lot at The Super Bowl bowling alley.

Katy Krekel, 20, traveled Sunday from Louisville, Ky. with her 13-year-old sister, Anna, to watch some of the filming. The sisters arrived in Crown Point at 7 p.m. and slept in their car.

"It's Johnny Depp," Katy said. "I've been a fan since I was 5."

The pair traveled to Wisconsin last week to watch some of the filming there and got to see Depp filming a chase scene.

"We saw him drive by in an old car, and then they were pulling the car on like a big flat-bed and they were filming that," she said.

Anissa Gray of Crown Point brought her 11-year-old daughter, Marissa Kozlowkski, downtown around 5:30 a.m.

"I have an 8-month-old, so I figured if I didn't get her up for this, the baby would get me up anyway," Gray said. "I've been in Chicago and New York when they were filming movies, and I wanted her to see what it is like."

A group of three Merrillville High School students got to the square around 4:30 a.m. The thespians said they were excited about seeing the movie making process.

Unlike their Crown Point school counterparts, the Merrillville students were not on spring break. They had to report to class at 7:45 a.m.

"We're just waiting for the cameras to swoop in that are worth more than, like, all the money I can ever make," said Alyssa Shirk, 16, of Hobart

Her friend, Patricia Millard, 15, said she admires Depp's acting chops.

"He's a wonderful actor and enhances every film he's in," she said.

Some fans were less interested in the acting or the film making process, like the girls with signs adorned with glitter paint pressed against the snow fence reading, "Johnny, hug me please! You're beautiful!" and "I love Johnny."

Still, Crown Point police said there were no problems overnight into Monday morning. Several joked that they were thankful for the overtime pay they were getting working in and around the set, paid for by the movie production company.

"It's good for the city," Crown Point Police Cpl. Larry Gonzalez said. "We had people starting to line up around 12:30, but they've all been fine."

Gonzalez said he got to take a tour of Dillinger's old jail cell in the sheriff's house.

"They've got it all remodeled and really looking nice," he said. "The time and effort they took in cleaning it up is going to benefit the city for years to come.

"We should be thankful for this project."

DEPP TO HELP COMA GIRL

Kind-hearted Hollywood actor JOHNNY DEPP has vowed to help a British girl who is fighting for her life after spending five months in a coma.
The parents of 17-year-old Sophie Wilkinson from Southampton, England, who was critically injured in a car crash last year (07), wrote to the Pirates of the Caribbean star as he is their daughter's favourite actor - and Depp was so moved by their plight he resolved to help.
Depp has agreed to record a voice message for the teenager which will be played to her in the hope it will help bring her out of the life-threatening coma. He also agreed to try to visit the stricken teen at Southampton General Hospital.
And Sophie's father Andrew was delighted the star offered to give up his time to help.
He says, "We are looking for the key to wake her up, so we wrote to Johnny and he said he would do the recording in the voice of (his Pirates of the Caribbean character) Jack Sparrow.
"Only this week Sophie moved her right leg, which she has never done before.
When we got home my wife and I were jumping for joy!"

Johnny Depp will play Dillinger in Mann's upcoming film PUBLIC ENEMIES, which begins shooting in Columbus, Wisconsin, on March 17th. They visited the Dillinger farm on February 29th to soak up the atmosphere and speak with Mr. Scalf, who generously allowed them to go into John Dillinger's former bedroom, look at family artifacts, read letters, and look at pictures never made available to the public--Johnny Depp even held a reproduction of Dillinger's famous wooden gun.
"They've really done their homework," Jeff Scalf told reporter Amy Hillenburg. "They were both very down-to-earth, polite and respectful of the subject matter." During the four-hour visit, Johnny Depp told Mr. Scalf that "he would try to be sensitive to [Dillinger's] true persona. And that he would portray Dillinger as he really was."
That approach pleases Dillinger's nephew. "As my grandmother used to say, 'Don't romanticize John, but don't villanize him, either.' He was who he was," Scalf said. "John was different than some of the other criminals of his era [. . .]. He wasn't mean-spirited or the first to pull out a gun. I hope this movie will show all sides of John."

Johnny Helps a teen fight for her life

Hollyscoop.com- Let's face it, Johnny Depp can do no wrong! Not only is he gorgeous, he's also one of the most kind-hearted actors in the biz. Depp has vowed to help a 17-year-old girl fight for her life.

Sophie Wilkinson was critically injured in a car accident five months ago, which has left her in a coma. Since Johnny Depp is her favorite actor, her parents wrote him a letter asking for his help. Much to their surprise, Depp was so moved he vowed to help in any way he could.

Wilkinson's father Andrew says, "We are looking for the key to wake her up, so we wrote to Johnny and he said he would do the recording in the voice of (his Pirates of the Caribbean character) Jack Sparrow.

"Only this week Sophie moved her right leg, which she has never done before. When we got home my wife and I were jumping for joy!"

We're not surprised that Depp would contribute his time to help out a little girl. Just last year Depp almost lost his own daughter to E. coli virus, so having a sick daughter has been a touchy subject since.
