Henüz dört yaşındayken Mayberry R.F.D. Tv serisi ile kariyerine başlayan Jodie Foster 1976 yılında Robert De Niro'nun yer aldığı Taxi Driver'da canlandırdığı Iris karakteri ile adını duyurdu. Yale Üniversitesi'ne İngiliz Edebiyatı okuyan aktris hiç oyunculuk eğitimi almamasına rağmen 30 yaşına gelmeden iki Oscar ödülünün sahibi oldu. Oyuncunun en çok ses getiren ve akıllara kazınmasını sağlayan filmi hiç kuşkusuz ki Anthony Hopkins ile başrollerini paylaştığı Kuzuların Sessizliği (The Silence of the Lambs) dir.

1962 yılında Los Angeles’da doğdu. Asıl adı Alica Foster idi ama kardeşleri onu Jodie takma adıyla çağırırlardı. Babası henüz Jodie doğmadan ailesini terketmişti. Güçlü bir kadın olan annesi, bir film yapımcısının yanında iş bularak Jodie’nin kariyerini başlatmak üzere ilk adımı atmış oldu. Şehrin en iyi okullarından biri olan Fransız Lisesini sınıf birincisi olarak tamamlayan Foster, Yale Üniversitesi İngiliz Edebiyatı bölümünden de onur belgesiyle mezun oldu.
İki yaşındayken bir TV reklam filminde oynayan Foster, oyunculuk kariyerinde 100’ü aşkın filmde rol aldı. 1970 de ilk kez bir TV filminde oyunculuk yaptı ve ardından çok sayıda Disney filmlerinde oyunculuğa devam etti. 1976 da Martin Scorsese’nin “Taxi Driver” filmindeki rolüyle, henüz 14 yaşında, en iyi yardımcı oyuncu dalında Oscar adayı oldu. 1976 yılında “Freaky Friday” ile ilk kez Altın küre adaylığını yakaladı. Hiçbir oyunculuk dersi almamış oyuncunun başarısı hayranlık uyandırdı.
1981 Mart ayında, John Hinckley’nin başkan Ronald Reagan’a ateş ederek öldürmeye kalkışması ve sebep olarak da “Taxi Driver” filmine ve özellikle Jodie Foster’a olan takıntısını öne sürmesi Foster’a zor zamanlar yaşattı.
Çocuk oyuncu statüsünden genç oyuncu statüsüne geçmenin sıklıkla imkansız olduğu Hollywood’da Foster, kariyerinin devamını ustalıkla sağladı. “The Accused” (1988) daki rolüyle en iyi kadın oyuncu dalında Altın Küre ve Oscar ödüllerini kucakladı. 1991 yılında “The Slience of the Lambs” ona ikinci Altın Küre ve Oscar heykellerini getirdi. Daha sonra 2001 yılı yapımı, devam filmi niteliğindeki “Hannibal” da oynamayı kabul etmedi.
Bu sıralarda Jodie Foster yönetmenlik ve yapımcılıkla da ilgilenmeye başladı. 1991 de “Little Man Tate” i yönetti. 1994’de rol aldığı “Nell” de ise filmin yapımcılığını da Foster üstlenmişti. Bu filmdeki oyunculuğu ile aktrist, Altın Küre ve Oscar adaylığını yeniden yakaladı. 1999 da “Contact” ile 5. kez Altın Küre adayı oldu.
2002 yılında People dergisi tarafından dünyadaki en güzel 100 kişiden birisi seçildi.
Sosyal yaşamında hiçbir zaman yanında bir erkekle görülmeyen Foster’ın lezbiyen olduğu konusunda dedikodular yapıldı. 1998’de bir erkek çocuk doğuran Foster, çocuğunun babasını hiçbir zaman açıklamadı. 2001 yılında ikinci erkek çocuğunu dünyaya getiren oyuncu, yine çocuğunun babasını açıklamadı. Çocuklar yeterince büyüdüğü zaman babalarının kimliğini onlara açıklayacağını söylemekle yetinen Foster, özel hayatını gözlerden uzak tutmak konusunda daima çok başarılı oldu.
İlk çocuğunun doğumundan sonra Foster, her yıl bir film çekmeye karar verdi. Bu kararının ardından 1999 da “Anna and the King” ve 2001 yılında da “Panic Room” geldi. Kısa bir aradan sonra 2005 de “Flightplan” ile Foster, bir filmi tek başına götürebileceğini bir kez daha kanıtladı. 2006 yılında Spike Lee’nin yönettiği, ülkemizde de vizyona giren “Inside Man” (“İçerideki Adam”) filminde, Foster başrolü Denzel Washington ile paylaşıyor. Bir banka soygununun konu edildiği film, Amerika’da seyircinin beğenisini kazanmayı başardı.

Bir süredir bolca gerilimli filmlerde dehşete maruz kalan Jodie Foster, bu defa dehşeti kendi saçıyor.

Bundan 30 yıl önce Jodie Foster, 'Taksi Şoförü'yle en iyi yardımcı kadın oyuncu Oscar'ı aldığında henüz 14 yaşındaydı. Şimdi ise Travis Bickle'dan sonra, koşma sırası Erica Bain'de. Yeni filmi 'İçimdeki Yabancı'yla hayranlarıyla buluşmaya hazırlanan Oscarlı yıldız Jodie Foster, filminin Fransızca dublajını yapmak için gittiği Paris'te Yeni Aktüel dergisi'nden Ece Güçer'e konuştu. * Bu film şehirde yaşayan bir insanı adım adım karanlığa sürükleyen korkudan bahsediyor. Sizce korku Amerika'nın günlük yaşamının bir parçası mı?
Evet, bu film, ayrıca 70'li yıllardaki kanunu algılama şekillerine, dolayısıyla yine 70'li yılların filmlerine, Taxi Driver ve Straw Dogs'a (1971) göndermeler yapıyor. O zamanlar Vietnam'ın yaralarını sarıyorduk ve şehir çok tehlikeliydi. 11 Eylül'den sonra New York şehrinde her köşe başına bir polis dikildi ve belki de dünyanın en büyük güvenli şehri haline geldi. * Senaryo seçimlerinizde tek başına mücadele eden karakterler göze çarpıyor...
Herhalde bu bilinç dışı gelişen bir şey. Yalnızlık duygusu oynadığım karakterlerde beni gerçekten tutkulandıran bir öge. Ama aslına bakarsanız oyunculuk da başlı başına bir yalnızlık deneyimi. Yaratıcı olarak, oyunculuk tuhaf bir meslek, belki dünyanın en güzel ve en korkunç şeyi. Sabahın üçünde bir sahte kan gölünde bulunmaya insanı götüren duyguyu anlamak gerçekten çok zor.

* Çoğunlukla güçlü ama birtakım olayların kurbanı olmuş karakterleri canlandırdınız. Bunun ardında bazı toplumsal angajmanlarınız var mı?
Sanırım yeterince sosyal amaçlarla dolu dramatik film yaptım. Ben öyle eylemcilik yapamıyorum. Hiçbir zaman da yapmayacağım. Diğer Hollywood starlarının yaptığı gibi ünlü eylemci kılığında gezemem. Filmlerim benim kendimi tek ifade şeklim. 20 yaşındayken kariyerim henüz şekil almamıştı, o yıllarda bana teklif edilen tek şey iç çamaşırı reklamıydı. Bende kendimi okumaya ikna ettim.

* Çocuklarınızın da bu camiada çalışmalarını ister misiniz?
Gerçekten onların bu güzergâhı seçmemesini diliyorum.

* Sinema dünyasının yüzeysel ve parlak alemlerinden bıktığınız oluyor mu?
Ben sinema dünyasının bu cafcaflı yüzeysel yaşamından hep uzak durmaya çalışıyorum. Öyle galadan galaya koşan yıldızlardan değilim. Sadece kendi filmlerimin ve çok sevdiğim birkaç arkadaşımın filmlerinin prömiyerine katılıyorum. Gözlerimin üstüne kalem çekmek bence işimin en zahmetli yanı...

* Yönetmen olarak çektiğiniz filmlerde, genelde yaşadıklarınızı temel aldığınızı, buna karşın oynadığınız filmlerde size uzak karakterleri tercih ettiğinizi söylemiştiniz. Erica ve Jodie arasındaki farklı yanları biraz anlatabilir misiniz?
O da aslında benim gibi iyi bir eğitim almış, bilinçli bir kadın. Bense kanuna kitaba inanan bir insanım, hatta kanunun işlemediğine inandığım zaman bile, hiç kanunun olmamasından daha iyidir diye düşünürüm. Ben 24 yaşındayken, bir film için, silah kullanmayı öğrenmem icap etti, bu yüzden bir silah edinmiştim. Sonunda bir silah sahibi olmanın kişiliğimi değiştireceği düşüncesi beni fena kapladı. Birçok radyo programının nasıl yapıldığını izledim. Sanki bir basınç odasındasın ve hiçbir şey duymuyorsun; sadece bir ses ve yankısın. Bunun yanında, senaryo yazarı ile senaryonun üzerinde çok çalıştık.

* Önsezilerinizi kullanıyor musunuz?
Karakterin görüş açısına ve olayların gelişim perspektifine göre düşünüp hazırlanıyorum. Benim için film, bir metindir.

* Sizin için sinemanın ne olduğunu ifade eden bir sahne, hatta birkaç saniye bile olsa bu ne olurdu?
Deer Hunter'da (Avcı, 1978, Michael Cimino) bir Rus ruleti sahnesi var ki unutamam, o zamanlar 15 yaşındaydım. Film, aynı zamanda teknik aksaklıklarıyla meşhur. Hatta bir ara kadraj kendi kendine daralıyor, nedendir bilinmez ve zaten hali hazırda bulunan endişenin dozunu arttırıyor. Bu ağır havaya bir de geyiklerin kulakları sağır eden çığlıkları ekleniyor. Benim için bu sahne bütün eksik ve kusurlarıyla, bir filmde olabilecek en iyi sahneydi. Tek kelimeyle mükemmeldi. Kendime o zaman, "İşte yapmak istediğim iş bu" dedim.

Reha Erus, iki Oscar'lı Jodie Foster'la bugün gösterime giren "The Brave One" (İçindeki Yabancı) filmini konuştu. 14 yaşında bir fahişeyi canlandırdığı ve bu yüzden psikolojik destek gördüğü efsane "Taksi Şoförü" filminin çekimlerinden hemen sonra ailesiyle Türkiye'ye geldiğini açıklayan Foster, "Taxi Driver filminden hemen sonra ailece Türkiye'ye
gittik. İstanbul, Kapadokya ve Efes'i gezdik. Dönüşümde okulda Efes'i konu alan bir kompozisyon yazmıştım. En yüksek not olan 'A' almıştım. 15 yaşımda tarihe inanılmaz meraklıydım" diyor. Mrs. Foster öncelikle nasıl bir annesiniz?

- Tıpkı annem gibiyim. Sanırım ondan çok şey kapmışım. Çocukken aile adına uçak rezervasyonu yapmak, yılbaşı kartlarını yazmak, tatili organize etmek gibi rutin görevlerim vardı. Annemin benden büyük beklentileri vardı. Galiba bunun için aşırı disiplinli biriyim. Üzerimdeki anne baskısı müthişti ama beni pek yıpratmadı. Sanırım bu durumu istemeden de olsa fazlasıyla oğullarım Charles ve Kit’e yansıtıyorum.

Her kadın yaşlanmaktan korkarken siz sanki bu duruma aldırış etmiyor gibisiniz...

- Öyle demeyin. Bende aynaya bakıyorum ve "Aaa! Bu kırışık daha önce orada yoktu" diye düşünüyorum. Doğanın yasasına karşı elbette gelemeyiz. Ama ilginçtir yaşlanmak beni ürkütmüyor. Çünkü dolu dolu yaşadım ve yaşıyorum. 45 yaşındayım ama hep geleceği, 70 yaşımda nasıl bir performans sergileyeceğimi düşünüyorum.

Birçok kadın yıldız 40’ından sonra fazla rol önerisi alamama korkusuna kapılıyor.

- Evet gerçek bu ama bu durum beni pek ırgalamıyor. Çünkü çocuklarıma zaman ayırmak benim için daha önemli.

Gelelim filme... "The Brave One-İçindeki Yabancı"da kendi başına adaleti sağlamaya çalışan bir kadını canlandırıyorsunuz...

- Ben genelde yalnız, sessiz ve kapalı kadınları canlandırmayı seviyorum. Zaten oynadığım birçok filmde de aynı temayı görürsünüz. Travma ve aşırılık beni çekiyor. Çünkü korkuyu etüt etmeyi severim. Hayatta kalma tekniği kadar canlandırdığım kişinin yerine kendimi koyup "Benim başıma gelseydi ne yapardım?" sorusuna yanıt aramayı severim. Oynadığım film komedi olsa da canlandırdığım karakterde hayatıma ya da çocukluğuma dair mutlaka bir iz bulunur. Aslında ben zor bir insanım ve bunu her filmdeki karakterime yansıtırım.

Oynadığınız her filmde güçlü kadın profili çiziyorsunuz...

- Beni güçlü kadınlar büyüler aslında. Bunun içinde bugüne kadar hiç güçsüz ve zayıf kadın rolünü seçmedim.

"The Brave One"da oynarken bu konuda algılamalarınız oldu mu?

- Evet, genelde kadınlar bu tür intikam psikozuyla hareket etmezler. Tanımadıklarını öldürmezler. Eğer şiddet görürlerse, taciz edilirlerse, tecavüze uğrarlarsa içmeye başlarlar ve acısını çocuklarından çıkarırlar. Yakınlarına karşı hoyratça davranırlar. Aslında kendi kendilerini mahvederler. Ben Erica karakterinde provokasyonu tercih ettim. Seyircinin kişiliklerinin karanlık yanlarını sorgulamasını istedim. Bakın istatistikleri göre silahlı saldırılarda kadın ilk hedef oluyor. Ama ellerine silah geçirdiklerinde ise genelde kendi çocuklarına, ailelerine, akrabalarına ve dostlarına
karşı kullanabiliyor ama gidip de tanımadıkları bir insanı öldürmeye çalışmıyorlar.

Erica Bain bunu yapıyor ama...

- Erica zaten sıra dışı bir kadın. Yaşadıklarından sonra depresyona girip kurtuluşu içkide bulmuyor. Yaşama küsmüyor tam tersi yaşama bağlanıyor. Tabii intikam açlığıyla. Gerçekte intikam kadını güzelleştirirken bir canavara da dönüştürebiliyor.

Geçmişle şimdiki zamanı karşılaştırın desem...

- Öncelikle internet yoktu. Fotoğrafçıların objektifi bugünkü kadar etkili değildi. Zaten o zamanlar paparazzilere yakalanmak için bu kadar çok eğlence yeri de yoktu. En önemlisi çocukluğumda bir çocuk oyuncu için hedef uzun bir kariyere imza atmaktı. Ama bugün amaç kısa zamanda şöhrete ulaşıp bol para kazanmak.

Sizin bir de Türkiye maceranız var. Biraz ondan bahseder misiniz?

Hep aykırı rolleri oynadı

41 yıldan beri onu hep aykırı rollerde izledik. Üç yaşındaki halini de biliyoruz reklamlardan. Hele 14’ünde Robert DeNiro’nun karşısında canlandırdığı çocuk fahişe Iris Steensima karakteri hálá hafızalarımızda...

19 Kasım’da 45 yaşına basacak olan iki Oscar’lı Jodie Foster, son filmi "The Brave One"da bir intikam meleğine dönüşüp tek başına bireysel adaleti sağlıyor.

Macera Adası 18 Nisan'da vizyonda!


Yazar Wendy Orr’un aynı adlı kitabından beyazperdeye uyarlanan 'Nim’s Island/Macera Adası' 18 Nisanda vizyona girecek.

Alınan bilgiye göre, yazar Wendy Orr’un, 2002 yılında yayımladığı 'Nim’s Island' adlı kitabı Santa Monica’daki bir kütüphanede keşfedenfilmin yapımcısı Paula Mazur, kitabı sinemaya uyarlamak için çaba gösterdi. Yönetmenliğini Mark Levin ile Jennifer Flackett’in üstlendiği filmin senaryosunu, Paula Mazur ile Joseph Kwong yazdı.

Filmin başrollerinde 'Little Miss Sunshine/Küçük Gün Işığım' filmindeki performansıyla Oscar adaylığı kazanan Abigail Breslin, Oscar Ödüllü oyuncu Jodie Foster ve Gerard Butler rol aldı.

Çekimleri Avustralya'nın Altın Sahili plajları ile Hinchinbrook Adası'nın yağmur ormanlarında gerçekleştirilen filmin konusu özetlenşöyle: 'Hayal gücünün coştuğu, maceraların hüküm sürdüğü egzotik bir adada Nim adlı (Abigail Breslin) özgür ruhlu ve enerjik bir genç kız yaşar. Çevresi hayvan dostlarıyla dolu olan Nim'in favori edebiyat kahramanı, dünyanın en büyük maceraperesti olan Alex Rover'dır. Nim, yaşadığı tropik ada tehdit altına girince yardım etmesi için kahramanına başvurur. Ancak Nim'in bilmediği bir gerçek vardır. Çok sevdiği Rover kitapları serisinin ünlü yazarı Alex(andra) Rover (Jodie Foster), aslında bir kadındır. Üstelik büyük kentteki apartman dairesinde doğadan çok uzakta tek başına yaşamaktadır. Korkak ve çekingendir. Nim’den gelen mesaj üzerine dünyanın ücra köşesindeki bu adaya hiç istemeden gitmek zorunda kalır. Heyecanlı bir kişiliği olan Nim, artık hayatının en büyük macerasıyla yüz yüzedir.
