Barış gönüllüsü Hollywood starı

Ünlü country şarkıcısı Naomi Judd'un kızı olan ve son dönem Hollywood'un en dikkat çekici aktristleri arasında yer alan Ashley Judd bir hafta boyunca Surinam'da, yağmur ormanları içinde yerlilerle birlikte yaşadı.
Üniversitede okuduğu yıllardan beri Barış Gönüllüleri'ne katılmak isteyen ünlü oyuncu Ashley Judd sonunda rüyalarını gerçekleştirdi. 1961 yılında, ABD Başkanı Kennedy tarafından kurulan Amerikan Barış Gönüllüleri binlerce gönüllüden oluşuyor ve 80 ülkede çocukları eğitmek, temiz içme suyu sağlamak ve iş kurmaya teşvik etmek amacıyla çalışıyor. Ashley Judd da geçtiğimiz aylarda bu çalışmalara biraz olsun katılmak amacıyla Güney Amerika'ya, Surinam'a gitti. Oniki saatlik bir yolculuktan sonra Surinam'ın başkenti Paramaribo'ya inen oyuncu burada Barış Gönülleri tarafından karşılandı. Ülkenin atmosferine hemen sokabilmek için ilk olarak ‘‘marron’’ adı verilen pazar yerine götürüldü. Bütün satıcıların kadın olduğu bu pazar yeri Ashley Judd'u çok etkiledi.
Ertesi gün Judd, yüz kişinin artı iki barış gönüllüsünün yaşadığı Asawai köyüne gitti. Barış Gönüllüsü Gina ve John burada dört yıldır yaşıyor. Asawai, Amazon Yağmur ormanlarının başladığı yerde, Saramacca nehrinin kıyısında bir köy. Burada yaşayan insanlar, 1700'lerde Hollandalı köle avcılarından kaçmayı başarmış Afrikalıların torunları. Asawai'ye gitmenin tek ulaşım aracı kano.

Hediye bolluğu

Köyün başına kaptan yada onların diliyle Bashj deniyor. Babadan oğula geçen kaptanlığın işi köyün kültür ve geleneğini devam ettirmek. Ashley Judd'u, köyde en çok etkileyen şeylerden biri de yoğun olarak devam eden hediye alışverişi. Elbiseden yiyeceğe kadar sürekli birbirlerine hediye veriyorlar. Burada yaşayan insanlar çok eşli bir hayat sürüyorlar ve evlilik basitçe karşılıklı niyetle kuruluyor. Ancak devlet nezdinde bunun resmi bir tarafı yok. Çocukları seviyorlar ancak köpeklerden nefret ediyorlar. Köpek nefreti geçmiş yıllardan kalma bir alışkanlık. Çünkü zamanında köle avcıları insanları köpeklerle yakalıyorlardı.
Ashley, ilk gecesini, John ve Gina'nın evinde, üzerinde bir cibinlik asılmış bir hamakta geçirdi. Çiftin evi çatısı yapraklardan oluşan tahtadan bir baraka. Tuvalet ve mutfak evin dışında. Ashley'nin en dikkat etmesi gereken şey diz ve bel arasını kapatmak oldu. Çünkü Asawai'liler için en mahrem bölge diz ve kalça arası.
Sabah kalktığında yüzünü yıkamak ve dişlerini fırçalamak için bir varilde topladıkları yağmur suyunu kullandı. Sabahları herkesin birbirine selam vermesi köyde kesin uyulması gereken bir ayin. Köylüler gelen konuklarına iyi uyuyup uyumadığını ve gece seks yapıp yapmadığını soruyor. Bütün sorular ciddiye alınıyor ve detaylı bir şekilde cevap veriliyor.

Nehirde banyo

Erkekler sabahları avlanıp balık tutarken çocuklar okula gidiyor. Ashley için en zor olan nehirde banyo yapmak oluyor çünkü nehrin içinde bol miktarda tavuk kemiği ve bitki tohumları yüzüyor. Bulaşıkların ve çamaşırların da aynı nehirde yıkandığı düşünülüse... Kadınlar ekim dikim yaptıkları bahçeyi genelde seviyorlar. Bahçe, bitmek bilmeyen sosyal alışverişten uzak kalınabilinen tek yer. Asawai içinde yanlız kalmak zaten hemen hemen mümkün değil. Burada çalışıp ülkelerine geri dönenlerin en zorluk çektiği durum da bu oluyormuş. İçiçe yaşamaya o kadar alışıyorlar ki büyük şehirlerdeki yalnız yaşamlara bir türlü yeniden adapte olamıyorlarmış.
Ashley'in en hoşuna gidense köyden bir kadının saçlarını örmesi olmuş. Saçını ören kadın Ashley’den evine gidene kadar saçlarını çözmemesini rica etmiş. Akşamları bütün çocuklar nehre yıkanmaya gidiyorlar. Geceleri ise kesin kurallar var. Bütün aktiviteler nehirden uzakta yapılıyor. Çünkü nehir pirana kaynıyor. Herkes köye toplanınca akşam yemeği hazırlanıyor. Aileler yaptıkları yemekleri birbirleriyle paylaşıyor. Yemekten sonra ise davullar eşliğinde dans başlıyor. Dans bitince ve herkes uyumaya çekilince ormanın sesi duyulmaya başlanıyor.
Ashley Judd'un orman konusunda keşfettiği en önemli şey bu seslerin ona korkudan çok huzur verdiği oluyor. Ashley Judd geri kalan günlerde başka köylere de gidiyor ve başka barış gönüllüleriyle daha görüşüyor.

Alışmak zor geliyor

Bir haftanın sonunda Ashley tekrar evine, Amerika’ya dönüyor. Burada kısa bir süre sonra tekrar eski işlerine, film görüşmelerine başlıyor. Ancak bir süre sonra Surinam’da geçirdiği haftanın onu tahmin ettiğinden daha çok etkilediğini fark ediyor. Onunla yapılan röportajda ‘Şehirde kalabalıklar içinde yaşıyoruz ama döndükten sonra farkettim ki bu kalabalıklar bizden çok uzakta. Hepimiz tecrit edilmiş vaziyette yaşıyoruz. Birbirimize dokunmadan, ilişmeden. Olması gereken, ideal sosyal ilişki Asawai’de yaşanan ilişki. Herkesin niyeti ortada. Hem yakınlar birbirlerine hem de çok dürüstler. Bizlerse uzak ve samimiyetsiz bir hayat yaşıyoruz. Sahte güleyüzlükler, sahte dokunmalar... Bu hayata yeniden alışmam gerçekten zor oldu’ diyor.

İş başa düşünce star olmak hiç bir şey değiştirmiyor

Ashley Judd, Surinam’ın küçük bir köyünde geçirdiği bir haftalık süre boyunca tamamen köylülerin koşullarında yaşadı. Yıkanmak için nehre girdi, çamaşırlarını yıkamak için kovalarla su taşıdı (sağda), boş vakitlerinde barış gönüllüyleriyle toprak üstünde sohbet etti (ortada). Ama onu en çok etkileyen an köy kadınlarından birinin Ashley’in saçlarını tutam tutam örmesi oldu. Ashley de köylü kadının hatrına eve gidinceye kadar sökmemiş örgüleri.

Ashley Judd'ın kariyer yolculuğu şanssızlıklar ve aksiliklerle dolu, ama o yılmayıp bir yıldız olmayı başardı.

Oliver Stone'un 94 tarihli muhteşem Katil Doğanlar'ında bir rol kapınca, bütün hayranları Ashley Judd'ın bir kez daha sırtının yere gelmeyeceğini düşünmüştü. Ve fakat heyhat! Katil Doğanlar'da Judd'un olduğu tüm sahneler, montaj odasının döşemelerinde kaldı. Pek umrunda olduğu söylenemez. Zaten ilk sinema filmi Kuffs'ta da daha büyük bir rol alabilecekken, çok fazla çıplak sahne olduğu için daha küçük bir role geçebilecek kadar da "tuhaf"tı. Ya da Catwoman/ Kedi Kadın'da oynaması için gelen teklifi, Broadway'de Kızgın Damdaki Kedi'de sahneye çıkmak için bir an bile düşünmeden reddedecek kadar. Neyse ki bu tuhaflığı sinema kariyerini hiç etkilemedi. Heat/Büyük Hesaplaşma, A Time To Kill/Öldürme Zamanı, Kiss The Girls/Kızları Öp, Double Jeopardy/Çifte Tehlike gibi cinayet ve gerilim filmlerinde de, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood/Aramızda Kalsın, Someone Like You/Bazıları Çabuk Bıkar gibi romantik komedilerde yıldızını parlatmayı becerdi. Bu hafta da psikolojik korku filmi Bug/Böcek ile karşımıza çıkıyor. Durumu yine tuhaf, şöyle ki: Bir kere film, Amerikalı aktör ve oyun yazarı Tracy Letts'in bayağı ses getiren oyunlarından biri. Türkiye'de de DOT, bu sezonda oynamıştı. Ağır travmatik bir oyun olan Böcek, 10 dalda Oscar adaylığı alan Exorcist/Şeytan ve en iyi yönetmen ve en iyi film dahil dört dalda Oscar kazanan French Connection/Kanunun Kuvveti gibi filmlerin yönetmeni William Friedkin tarafından beyazperdeye aktarıldı. Ashley Judd, Harry Connick Jr.'ın yanı sıra üç yıldır Böcek'in oyun versiyonunda sahneye çıkan Michael Shannon'la eşleşti.

Judd verdiği röportajlarda "Michael gerçekten rolünü çok iyi biliyordu ve inanılmazdı, bana çok şey kattı" diyor. Zaten hepitopu beş kişilik bir oyuncu kadrosu olan, 25 günde ve film için yapılan küçücük bir mekânda yapılan çekimlere başka türlü katlanılmazdı herhalde. Üstelik, film de ağır travmatik. Hapishaneden yeni çıkan sabık kocası tarafından psikolojik ve fiziksel tacize uğrayan ve çocuğunu kaybetmiş garson Agnes (Judd), bir motelde yaşarken Peter'la tanışıyor ve kısa bir zamanda Peter, Agnes'in hem koruyucusu hem de sevgilisi oluveriyor. Genç kadın tam işlerin düzeldiğini düşünürken Peter, Birinci Körfez Savaşı, UFO'lar, Oklahoma bombalamaları, intiharlar, hükümetin askerler üzerinde yaptığı gizli deneyler hakkında konuşmaya başlar. Bunlar yetmezmiş gibi Peter, insanların vücutlarına hükümet tarafından "böcek"ler yerleştirildiğini ve sürekli dinlendikleri paronoyalarını da ekler. İkili karanlık bir deliliğin içinde, vücutlarından böcekleri çıkarmak gibi bir çılgınlığa sürüklenir. Yani bir gerilim filminde olması gereken paronoya, komplo teorisi, şizofreni ve delilik arasındaki ince çizgi, korku ve şiddet filmin tamamını kaplıyor. Hemen söyleyelim, Judd böceklerden korkmuyor, onları doğanın bir parçası olarak görüyor. "Hem" diyor, "filmde öyle böcekler ortada gezinmiyor, Peter'la benim derimizin altında olduğu söyleniyor, o kadar". Öte yandan film tabii ki yönetmeni nedeniyle, bazı kötü niyetliler tarafından Şeytan ile karşılaştırılıyor. Bunun da film çekimlerinde oyuncular üzerinde baskı kurup kurmadığı tartışılıyor. Judd, "Ben Şeytan'ı baştan sona hiç seyretmedim. Tamam Friedkin'in başarısını takdir ediyorum ama benim asla izleyeceğim bir film değil" diyor.

Ashley Tyler Ciminella, 1968 California doğumlu. At yarışlarında pazarlama uzmanı olarak çalışan baba ile country şarkıcısı annenin kızı olan Judd'ın çocukluğu pek de hoş geçmemiş. Anne babası ayrıldıktan sonra annesi, yine country şarkıcısı olan üvey ablasıyla birlikte Judd'ı Kentucky'ye götürür. Annesi ve ablası meşhur olup biraz para bulana kadar, üç kişilik kadın ailesi susuz, elektriksiz ve telefonsuz evlerde, yoksulluk içinde yaşar. Annesinin işi yüzünden Kentucky Üniversitesi'ne girene kadar, yani kısa bir hesapla 13 yılda 12 okul değiştirir. Kentucky Üniversitesi'nde Fransızca okurken bir taraftan da antropoloji, tiyatro, sanat tarihi ve kadın çalışmaları dersleri alır. Okulun son döneminde, diplomayı boşverip Hollywood'un yoluna düşer.
