ilk kez son samurayda seyretmiştim ve oyunculuğuna hayran olmuştum.bu filmdeki oyunculuğuyla oscarı kazanamaması bence haksızlıktı.batmande de yine harikaydı ama malesef geyşanın anılarını bir türlü seyredemedim.

Ken Watanabe'nin film hakkında söyledikleri:
“Savaş ve canlandıracağım karakter hakkında kapsamlı bir araştırma yaptım. Hatta Kuribayashi’nin Japonya’nın orta bölgelerindeki kasabasına gittim, ama kimse onu tanımıyordu”

Savaş ve Kuribayashi hakkındaki araştırmalarını tamamladıktan sonra yaptığı Iwo Jima ziyareti Watanabe için duygusal bir yolculuk oldu. Aktör bu konuda şunları söylüyor: “Clint’le birlikte gidip kumsalı, bir kasabayı ve Suribachi Dağı’nın görüntüledik. Eminim ki orada daha çok çekim yapmak isterdi ama bu mümkün değildi. Esasında, filmin çoğu Güney Kaliforniya’da çekildi. Iwo Jima’yı uçağın kokpitinden gördüğümde ağlamadan edemedim çünkü tüm o askerlerin ruhlarının hâlâ orada olduğunu hissettim”.

Eastwood’un mağara sekanslarını çekeceği setler Warner Bros.’ta bir platoda hazırlandı ve Japon oyuncular ilk kez tam kadro bir araya geldi. Dil engeline rağmen, yönetmen ve oyuncular arasında, Iris Yamashita tarafından İngilizce olarak yazılan, ardından Japonca’ya çevrilen senaryo aracılığıyla yakın bir çalışma bağı oluştu. “Senaryo İngilizce yazıldığı ama film Japonca çekileceği için, doğru çevirmenlerin seçilmesine yardımcı oldum ve çalışmalarını kontrol ettim” diyor Watanabe ve ekliyor: “Clint’le omuz omuza çalışabilmek benim için harika bir deneyimdi. Ona her gün notlar verdim”.

Watanabe genç oyuncuların Eastwood çapında bir Amerikan yönetmeniyle ilk kez çalışmasından doğan boşluğun dolmasına da yardımcı oldu. “Dürüst olmak gerekirse, Ken’in belki de Clint’ten daha korkutucu olduğunu düşündüm, ama gerçekten bir baba gibiydi. Benim için her şeyi çok kolaylaştırdı. Böyle bir hikayenin gereği olarak hepimiz çok ciddiydik, ama sanki Ken babamızmış da hep birlikte kamp yapıyormuşuz gibi hissettik. Clint Eastwood öyle bir ortam yarattı” diyen Ninomiya, sözlerini şöyle sürdürüyor: “Ken-san herkese göz kulak olmak isteyen bir insan. Bizim ilk Amerikan filmimiz olduğu için bize tavsiyelerde bulundu. İzin günlerimizde evine davet etti ve kendi yaptığı Japon yemekleri ikram etti. Oyunculuktan söz ettik. Kendisi Amerika’da çalışma deneyimine sahip olduğu için çok faydalı nasihatler verdi. Ona gerçekten büyük saygı duyuyorum”...

Son Samuray ve Batman Başlıyor'da izledim.Batman Başlıyor'da fazla bir rolü yoktu zaten.Son Samuray'da çok karizmatikti.Gerçek bir samuray gibiydi.Hayran kaldım.Çok iyi bir oyuncu.Diğer filmlerini de mutlaka izleyeceğim.

50 yaşındaki Saeki'nin yaşamı özetle mükemmeldi:çalışanlarının saygısını kazanmıştı,eşi Emiko (Kanako Higuchi)'yu seviyordu ve kızı yakında evlenecekti.Fakat bir gün Saeki korkunç bir şekilde isimleri hatırlamamaya başladı.Bu yüzden eşi doktora gitti ve teşhisi öğrendi:Alzheimer başlangıcı.

Esrarengiz bir R'as Al Ghul izlettirmişti bize Batman de,
Muhteşem bir Katsumoto olmuştu , Son Samuray da
General Kuribayashi olarak Eastwood'un onu oynatması çok doğru bir karardı...

Hep trajik karakterleri canlandırıyor...? Neden?
Mesela ben onu Karayip Korsanları; Dünyanın Sonu'n da Chow Yun-Fat yerine görebilmeyi çok istemiştim?
Kaptan Sao Feng'i müthiş güzel canlandırabilirdi, bundan eminim.
